Can I wear this to a wedding?

Off to a close friend's wedding this summer. Christian ceremony, followed by afternoon and evening reception. I have been asked to do a reading.

I own this dress already and I love it: www.lindybop.co.uk/dresses-c1/maisie-classic-devore-vintage-1950s-layered-prom-dress-ball-gown-p160

Is it wedding-able? If so, what would you recommend to cover the shoulders for the churchy bit or if it's a bit cooler?

Have literally no sense of style, so any guidance taken on the nose!

Beautiful dress, I love it! People wore similar styles to my summer wedding and I didn't think anything of it, and I'd probably wear it to a wedding (with some cream accessories) if I were lucky enough to own it, but I can see why some people might think it's not quite appropriate if the couple or style of the wedding is very traditional. I hope you find another excuse to wear it soon!!

I have what sounds like exactly the same figure as you OP- 5'3", 32G boobs, bigger tummy than I used to have pre-kids. I'm a 12 though.

I have my brother's wedding at the end of June and no idea what to wear. Are all the Lindy Bop dresses good? So they fit well/are they good quality?
I've been looking at Lipsy dresses; they seem good for our kind of figure.

hmm. I've looked hard for shoes and not found anything I dare seriously suggest for with the lovely coral dress. nada. I'm quite good a finding stuff. It needs somethign reasonably 'light' looking not to go all unnecessarily frumpy.

If there were shoes you'd probably only be able to ever wear them with that one dress which to my (awkward footed self) is daft and a waste.

Am I right in thinking that the schuh mules are well towards the maximum doable height and that it should be a block heel or wedge to reduce strain on the foot as much as possible?

There are tonnes of dresses you could wear and look fab in.

Shoes. First.

Black, metallic (don't know if you prefer silver or gold) or nude, if you must. For maximum versatility like.

I think the dress you already own is lovely and if that is your style, then wear it. Be yourself xx

Invest in something to hold your tummy in like big spanx knickers. Not sexy but make a real difference under a dress.

cityrat79 · 13/05/2016 09:40

Thanks all:

ILostIt I'm really not a fan of Spanx. I'm sure they do the job, but they also give me chronic tummy ache, so will be steering clear.

MrsLettuce Height of the shoes isn't the biggest concern (though I am so uncoordinated that I do struggle with anything over 3 inches). It's more the size of the toe box. I have really narrow feet, but anything that squeezes my toes causes a lot of pain. I can't buy wide-fitting shoes, because they come off the ankle. Think of my foot like a duck's feet. Lucky me.

I did get steroid injections for the neuroma (made no difference). Even my private health insurance doesn't cover the freezing option (I would pay for it if they could guarantee it would work - but they won't). My final option is surgery, but with a toddler and a baby, I can't be off my feet for the required recovery. Maybe down the line!

Peachy Yes, I love the Lindybop dresses - they are really well cut and (I think) good value for the money. I have returned one (once) because the material looked cheap, but I generally love their range. I'm not quite as heavy up top (32DD, or possibly 34 since having the most recent sprog... haven't worked my way up to getting remeasured yet!)

Puffins I hopefully won't need to breastfeed whilst wearing the dress, as the baby isn't coming to the wedding. Worst case, I might need to go somewhere quiet and pump for a bit! I'm not too worried about that aspect of the dress - so long as it has a bit of give in the bust as my boobs get progressively larger during the day!

Diddly Thank you so much for the shoes - of all the styles you picked, this was my favourite - but unfortunately I can't wear mules as they fall off the back of my feet. I do like a cream / nude sandal for a summer event. Do they make a suitable Croc or Ugg? (Joke)

Thanks to all those who say they like the existing dress. I do too! But I think I will take the consensus view that it might not be the best choice for a summer church wedding... especially as I'm a known vociferous atheist - I'd hate people to think I was trying to make some sort of point!

I totally would! Your feet would be so happy.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 13/05/2016 16:02

If you like the dress and feel good in it definitely wear it. I would probably go with cream or pale pink for accessories and a printed wrap. Something similar to this??

Do you think it'll still suit a less-than-firm tummy?

After I had twins and was still breastfeeding, I invested in a good corset (for post ops, I think). It makes me feel like I have a six pack! I love it and still wear it 7 years on Blush.
