Invited to wedding...limited budget, post-pregnancy and breastfeeding dress challenge

I've been invited to a wedding with lunch afterwards here and I have no idea what to wear.

I have a very limited budget as I want to stay on maternity leave for as long as possible. I'll also still be breasfeeding and whilst I still have post-pregnancy weight issues I wasn't exactly small to begin with. I'd guess I'm around a size 18/20 but have huge norks made even bigger by the breastfeeding.

I very much need help - I haven't bought new clothes for ages and have not the slightest clue what to wear to such a lovely restaurant. I really don't get out much!

Thanks in advance...

Should add - the wedding is in early April.

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me,
I'm going down the garden to eat worms
Short fat juicy ones, any colour any size!

I don't normally talk to people who eat worms...
What would you like to wear?
The link to the restaurant didn't seem to work. Do they serve worms too?

PeachesMcLean · 13/01/2007 22:24

Sorry, seriously, sounds like you just don't know where to start and need a few ideas. How about browsing a few websites for ideas - Debenhams website is handy for that kind of thing. Presumably you need something you can wear again afterwards?

Hi Philomena. My dd was Christened in early May in horrid weather and I had loads of baby fat to cover and still bf. I had a dress from Monsoon that only cost £45 in this shape but made from cotton. I think it looked quite nice. The style of the top meant I could breastfeed, and I wore it with a belted 3/4 length sleeve cardigan. It flares from the bust so skims over belly.

Just read the description and mine wasn't pleated and the wrap around bit is stitched, it doesn't actually open up. Shirt dresses are meant to be good too, but they all looked rubbish on me.

Just have to qualify too that I am not a stylish person and very rarely scrub up well.

Wouldn't a skirt and top be more practical for b'feeding

Le Manoir! Just had a look. Sounds lovely am jealous. ENJOY

PeachesMcLean · 13/01/2007 22:38

Le Manoir? Crikey... posh worms then. With a panache of field reared garlic and hand torn sage. Mmmm.
Monsoon frock is nice. And another good website to flick through for ideas. When I was breastfeeding I was more of a "hitch up and wiggle out the bottom" kind of person, rather than "flip 'em out over the top". Does limit you though to tops with skirts.

Jennster · 13/01/2007 22:40

That bust line was fine to breastfeed without taking dress off. I wore it at a wedding and bf fight the way through without anybody noticing.

controlfreaky2 · 13/01/2007 22:44

i've been to the manoir...... you will LOVE it..... was very luxe without being too stuffy. food was absolutely amazing.

Bucketsofdynomite · 14/01/2007 11:45

If you can get a flimsy, floaty, strappy dress and a pretty cardi, you could whip a strap down in a private place I guess. Keeping the cardi on all day would mean you wouldn't have to worry about visible bra straps.
You would need matching shoes though.

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2007 12:03

here's your link! No idea about clothes but envy you the meal, it'll be fab!

JackieNo · 14/01/2007 12:28

I'd definitely go for a skirt and top if you can - much easier for bf. How about this skirt , with a vest top underneath and a cardigan like this over the top?

JackieNo · 14/01/2007 12:34

M&S have some good cardigans to - something like this or this ?

Philomena · 15/01/2007 17:41

I really love the cardi from Wallis. Looks like a top, cardi and trousers are the way forward. Do you think I can get away with wide leg black trousers and a black top if I wear a suitably vibrant cardigan/accessories?

Really want to wear everything after the wedding as money is an issue during mat leave.

I reckon so, or you could go for dark grey, or dark brown (though possibly not dark brown with the lime cardigan).

KristinaM · 16/01/2007 01:26

if you want to wear it later then seperates are teh way to go

unless you have a lot of ...ahem...functions to go to on mat leave
