Smart work wear when it's hot - what to wear?!

I've been asked to join our company's board meeting this week and I've nothing suitable in my wardrobe apart from winter clothes. I'm having a panic. I generally work from home, so live in jeans/nice tops for video calls Wink. What the hell can I buy today that will do the job? I'm mid-40s, struggle in heels and I'm not a fan of power dressing either (is that compulsory for board meetings?!)

Any ideas?

I don't feel comfortable in very formal clothes so for this kind of meeting I'd wear a plain shift dress in a sober colour with either a structured/smart cardigan or a soft (jersey) jacket, maybe a bolero or round necked jacket. Shoes: comfortable mid-height. Blow dry hair and wear make up. Several items of discreet jewellery, or a statement belt. Nude/neutral tights.

For mid heel shoes OP most of mine are from Carvela, Kurt Geiger, Zara or Topshop. My work flats are either Boden, Dune or Tory Burch.

Try some Reiss trousers... Some don't work but others are great. Got some v nice cigarette style ones a few summers ago. Yes - I nearly always wear navy trousers/dresses! Felt like branching out into something slightly cooler (?!) and though the black were good as a bottom half (pear thing again! But am only a size 10 bum so not v bad!).

Re shoes - weirdly, try Hobbs. The cut of some of their mid height courts are weirdly not-frumpy. Have some nice tan leather ones that are great in the spring/summer, a navy suede pair and a grey/white/black snakeskin pair. Have fairly narrow feet so find courts hard to buy.

P.s. 'Tan' doesn't mean nude or patent! Am over that...

M&S have low to mid height heels or Clarks. The bright purple ones on my feet right now are from Schuh but I've had them ages. You can also get low-ish heeled wedge peep toe shoes in lots of places at the moment - I find wedges better than normal heels

Stay away from Boden. Stuffy and cliche.

Zara jacket in bright colour, smart trousers or a pencil skirt. Check out Pinterest.

Think about why you have been asked to go and reflect your personality. Just be immaculate no matter what you choose. No chewed nails, perfect hair and great make up.

Good luck!

Brora dress. Stockings cooler than tights but you can't go to a board meeting with bare legs. Shoes in which you are comfortable

Believeitornot · 09/08/2016 09:46

I wear trousers and cotton shirts/sleeveless tops. I don't like tights in hot weather so skirts with no tights = sweaty thighs = grim (and I'm slim so they don't rub but still grim).

Offices usually have fierce air con anyway so the only hear you get is on a lunch break!

If in doubt wear black. I would wear:
Black culottes, sleeveless shirt/blouse tucked in belt and heeled sandals
Or
Black pencil skirt, sleeveless blouse tucked in or smartish tshirt tucked in, heeled sandals.
Fitted chino trousers, top tucked in, belt, heels (clog sandals, something like that).

If you only have use of these clothes once in a while h and m workwear is cheap and smart and in a dark colour looks good. Also plain stuff from new look, mango or warehouse is good. I wouldn't spend time and money in hobbs on something you are not going to get much use from.
