Am I the only person who didn't know this?

Bought a nice Clarins eye cream the other week, read good reviews and thought I'd give it a try.

After a week or so I noticed that the skin on my eyelids and above was very dry and starting to get flaky.

I mentioned it to the Clarins woman in Boots today and she looked at me in horror as she told me that I was not supposed to put eye cream above my eye; just below. Really? How did I not know this?! I've always put others above before.

I didn't know either.

I always use my eye cream all around the eye. If it is making your eye area dry and flakey then stop using it anywhere and buy one that does the job.

I was told you don't have pores on your eyelids and that's why you shouldn't put cream on them or the skin above them but under the brow.

Not sure if that's true or not but it was what I was told on a makeup course.

I think it is a tightening cream, it's certainly meant to improve wrinkles around the eye so maybe it does make sense that it would dry out an area that isn't very 'plump' ???

Sounds like a heap o' ole crap to me. Why not? We put a whole heap of other products on the top lid, what's so magic and different about this cream? You should be able to use it anywhere. (Unless there's a big fat sign that says 'do not use on upper lid) Heap o' ole crap.

You're sensitive/allergic to this cream. Bring it back and get your money back.

There are eye creams? I did not know this.

But it is fine under the eye cheese and I haven't had a rash or anything, it just seems to have dried it out. She was so adamant today that no eye cream should be put on the lid. I can't believe I'm this old and didn't know that!!

I go to he beauticians a lot sometimes and they always put eye cream above my eye, not so much on my eye lid but around the brow area in a circle of the eye.

Chocolate, I still think she's telling you a crock o' shit. Never heard such a thing. I use my regular ordinary non-special facial moisturiser all over my face, including my upper eyelids . Unless it says 'not for use on upper eyelid' it's a crock of pure unadulterated shit.
Just so happens your upper eyelids are more sensitive than your lower eyelids.
Bring it back.

I have only ever used eye cream under my eye. I don't know why I do this but presumably I was told this.

Would't the cream run off anyway when you got hot and sting like hell like suncream does?

Unless there's a warning on the box, all facial areas are free game IMO

I used to work in a department store teeming with these counters and the women will tell you all sorts of stuff. Like 'dot the eye cream on with your ring finger as it's the weakest finger so will do least damage to the delicate skin there' I didn't have the heart to tell her I sleep with my face smushed into the pillow all night long so any eye cream patting is the least of my worries.
