How can I get my hair to look anything like it did when I left the hairdressers?!

I had my hair cut the other day, not a lot off but the shape & style much improved. She blow dried it using a round brush but did it so it was really sleek, smooth and fairly straight. It looked really nice.
My hair is quite thick with a wave & often looks very messy & unstyled just because of the type of hair it is. One side frames my face quite nicely whereas the other side has a kink so the two sides never look the same.

I have since washed my hair and it has reverted back to the frizzy, mullet style!
I used a round brush but can not get it to dry sleek and straight like she did it. I know she did put some styling product on but I don't know what it was.

Can anyone suggest anything or advise what I need to do to get it looking anything like it did when I left the salon?

I've got one of the Babyliss things. Is it called big, beautiful hair or something? It's great. It's the only way I can make my hair turn in instead of flicking out, mullet style!

Babyliss Big Hair does the job for me. Have a look on youtube. In fact do an advanced search on here (abbreviated to BBH might throw up a few results too) as it was on here where I read about people raving about it circa 18 months ago.
Let your hair dry 50-75%, then section off and alternate directions. Makes my flat frizz prone hair nice and bouncy and smooth, and because it's heat source and brush in one it's a lot easier than juggling a brush and a hairdryer.

Yes, use a babyliss big hair. Its the closes I have ever got to salon perfection. I tend not to use mine too much though as I have found it to increase split ends.

Can anyone recommend a styling product to smooth & help style it straighter? I had a look in Boots today but there were so many products I thought I'd ask here for recommendations.

Go back in and ask her what she used. They usually sell the products they use. Next time they style it ask if they can give you tips.

I watch the hairdresser like a hawk when they are drying it after a cut and quiz them for tips, I had a complete change a couple of months ago and asked loads of questions about drying/styling...my hairdresser loves what she does and is more than happy to share what she knows.

A decent hairdryer helps, as do brushes that transfer the heat and hair clips so you can dry it section by section if you have to.

I'm also a sucker for product from the hairdressers, I don't go mad but I have had some stuff that's made a real difference.
