Are my feet too rank for a pedicure?

Dry, cracked, cut skin. Hairy toes, nails cut crudely and ridiculously short.

Im embarrassed to get them out even though I know the beauticians well but should I at least TRY to do something with them myself first?

I'd maybe defuzz but if they haven't seen all that and more before I'd be shocked. They're magicians and they'll look so much better afterwards.

Agree with everything - my feet can get pretty horrific. A pedicure doesn't really do much apart from my nails come out prettier colours! The chiropodist slices and sands and recommends meds and actually sorts the issues out. Plus my work's healthcare cash back scheme will pay for chiropody. Feet are important, they deserve a specialist!
I do shave my hobbity toes before seeing the chiropodist though

But this is a luxury pedicure involving heated boots and massage ... I need to break the habit of wandering around the garden/yard barefoot, but sometimes I can't be bothered to find my shoes! :)

As long as you don't have any infections or conditions then get them done.
Pedicurists are used to all kinds of feet!
Just check over your feet first for fungal nail infections- yellowing, thickened, verrucas or warts and for athletes foot. Some people don't realise they have these things until they have a good look. Then book in! Get a callus peel treatment too, it's amazing.

Agree with everyone else. My wonderful podiatrist is my priority. When she's sorted out my feet, then I have a professional nail paint or gel but beauty therapists aren't qualified to sort out any problems with feet.

Heated booties/soaks/masks/massages all feel lovely and my feet might come out feeling softer immediately after, But have never really made any substantial difference to stubborn hard skin etc in the long run wheras the chiropodists skills literally transformed my feet, and diagnosed a fungal infection I had been completely unaware of.

yy, podiatrist/chiropodist for the necessary hardcore work. That'll make actual improvement in the state / look of your feet. Then pedicure. That's just for luxury, extra prettiness and light maintenance.

I think pedicures are a scam. It doesn't matter what you do to them - feet look funny.

I want to go to one, but the my feet start to smell quite quickly, unless in sandals.

I'm going for an operation and I know they sometimes have to look at your toenails, whilst under the anaesthetic.

A good pumice and shave before would do no harm. I once a week smother my feet in a good lotion put thin socks on before bed to keep my feet soft.

They might in a Private Practice (but in the NHS we don't have time or the facilities to deal with water basins and cross infection. We'd either need plastic liners single use or sterilise the basins and I'd bloody spill it )

They use a pre-treatment spray (usually alcohol/Hibitane unless you are allergic).
And there's nothing that will shock a Podiatrist.
Unless you walked in stark naked, I'd be FFS though I have seen near starkers patients on Home Visits (I mutter FFS and "Lets get you a robe" )

Surgery, they check the nails to assess the circulation, so no polish. Usually fingernails.
When I had surgery I had elastic stockings on and those inflateable leg cuffs.

Sorry to hijack but I have a verucca that I can't get rid of (been there over a year) - will they not do a pedicure on me? Should I find someone else instead? What is a chiropodist and what is a podiatrist? How would I find a good one?

I have a verruca on each foot and want rid too! Who do I go see? Also I'm breastfeeding and have found I can't use most normal treatments... Confused x

Yes you can't have a pedicure with a verruca. They are highly contagious.
There are home treatments from chemists or you could get it frozen off by your doctor.
A good pedicure will remove a lot of hard skin and make a real difference. Callus peels are a fairly new beauty treatment that can be added as part of a pedicure and they remove huge amount of hardened skin.

Once you are verruca free then you can definitely get a pedi. Paraffin wax treatments are feel amazing and are deeply moisturising

Get the grunt work done by a chiropodist or foot health practitioner then a pedicure. Pedicures alone don't cut the mustard on my trotters.
