Is it possible to do sleeves and / or midi length without looking matronly?

I love the trend at the moment with sleeves and midi length but conscious that it can look 'old'.

Anyone seen anything fabulous that they think worked?

Im 5ft 4, 12 on bottom and 10 on top. Age 37.

I love this look but at 5.1 it is all the wrong length

I'm 5' 9" and size 10 it works for me. I have a black cotton skirt from COS which has slits at the sides to make it a bit more interesting.

there are very interesting sleeves right now. The over the hands length might not be the one for you, but how about the bell sleeve , where the bell can start above or below the elbow. Re the midi length , i prefer the skewed longer on both sides, or only 1 or shorter in the front and longer in the back.

I look very religious when I do this, and I see my ancestors in this style of dress. I can see that it can be a nice look but I cannot wear it. I'm 5'7" and (nearly!) a size 12.

5'6", 12 bottom, 10 top. I haven't worked it out either. I just look matronly as my mother would say. Theoretically it should work but does it heck. But maybe our 'fashion eyes' just need to get used to the different proportions??

That's funny, Sheba, I was looking at that dress in red the other week Grin

I think midi length skirts look best with bare legs, so generally when you'd not be wearing long sleeves either. I'm 5ft 6 and a 10/12 and find midi plus tights makes me look like an Amish person.

I'd recommend it Twinkle, it's not lined but hangs well and the quality is pretty good for the price.

Judy I agree, much as I would love to cover my winter legs in opaques, I've had to break out the fake tan when wearing midi dresses. I also find heels, even small ones, reduce the frump factor.

I bought a gorgeous midi skirt online and it looked hideous on me. I am small and slim but somehow it gave me a big belly and looked really unflattering and ageing. The model was tall and young and skinny and that must be the key.
