Have washed and worn my pair a few times and so far so good. wouldn't like to say whether they will be the same in 6 months but they feel as if they have quite a high "stretch" content which may help.

brimfull · 10/01/2007 15:18

So they don't go all baggy by the end of the day?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 15:25

the 1% lycra mean shouldn't be baggy after a day - even cheapo Next ones stay snug so long as they're the lycra ones.

NappiesGalore · 10/01/2007 15:27

i have some abercrombie and fitch ones i got in the states which have a bit of stretch in them and they hold their shape and look flatteringly good for way longer than any pair of jeans ive ever had... would love another pair!

brimfull · 10/01/2007 15:35

I have both next and matalan jeans (big spender !!) with lycra and both look crap as they become so baggy. They only look decent straight after washing.Maybe they're too big.

Hey NappiesGalore - AF is opening a store in London in March. On New Burlington Street, just off Regent St. So now you can easily get some more!!

superloopy · 10/01/2007 17:18

That is Abercrombie and Fitch not Auntie Flo.....

EmmyLou · 10/01/2007 17:19

Have never tried Boden jeans (bit put off by all the skinny women in the catalogue) but have been suprised how well a pair of Monsoon ones fit and also don't 'bag' after sitting/repeated bendings to retrieve toys from floor etc.

Would lurve a really expensive pair of jeans that make me look a size smaller. Can you get good jeans in a size 14? Not the sort of thing I dare ask in the shops that sell them...

NappiesGalore · 10/01/2007 17:22

oooh superloopy! thats great news, Ta!

NappiesGalore · 10/01/2007 17:25

Emmylou -my sister knows stuff like that. (is great having a sister; is like having an altogether Much More feminine/stylish/cool alterego )

brimfull · 10/01/2007 17:49

Yes emmylou I would love a pair of fab expensive jeans.

EmmyLou · 10/01/2007 18:28

NappiesGalore - get your sister on here then please! Could MN HQ get her to give an online jeans size 14 masterclass???

NappiesGalore · 10/01/2007 22:56

lol emmylou

actually i have tried to get her on here as it happens... she's even popped in now and then when really bored, but she feels like a fraud, seeing as she doesnt have children n all... she is a very devoted auntie...

NappiesGalore · 10/01/2007 22:57

but ill ask her if she has any tips re size 14 jeans and report back to this thread, ok?

loobylooby · 10/01/2007 22:59

A&F just opened in Bluewater too

superloopy · 10/01/2007 23:39

Masterclass......

Ok I worked at Gap for a few years and if you were my customer this is what I would reccomend

  • Go for jeans with some stretch. They are more comfortable, softer and don't get baggy (especially around your bum). Stretch also sucks everything in and hoiks it up and smoothes everything out.
  • The best cut jeans are straight leg or boot cut, which skim your thighs and bag out a bit over your calves. They will balance your figure out. Don't get anything which is too low waisted or you will run the risk of muffin top or flashing the top of your knickers which looks really cheap.
  • DO NOT buy jeans which taper in at the bottom. They exaggerate and/or create a pear shape which you don't want. Horrible things!!
  • Rear pockets with detail like button flap thingys add to the size of your bum too so if you don't want that get smooth pockets with no details.
  • Darker wash denim is the most fashionable at the moment and flattering. Just remember to wash them inside out so you don't get those faded lines on them.
  • Finally make sure they are the right length, too short and you look silly and get cold ankles, too long and they get wet and wear out and look all raggedy. Buy them long and take them up or get them altered at the dry cleaners.
  • I have lots of pairs of Gap long and lean jeans which are very comfy (I had a good staff discount and stocked up before I left!!) and flattering to wear. I have also got 2 pairs of crazy expensive designer jeans which are just MAGIC! Seven for all mankind and Citizens of humanity which I got in New York. They make me feel so good when I wear them that I can justify the expense. Maybe if you get the chance go into a posh department store like Selfridges or Harvey Nicks and just try loads on don't be intimidated by the staff, they are there to serve you!

Wow this is really long but I hope it is helpful!!

brimfull · 10/01/2007 23:42

thanks superloopy, tha gap long and lean, are they low rise ?

OP posts:
superloopy · 10/01/2007 23:48

They are kind of medium low if that makes sense. You can bend over without flashing your bum crack but your jeans aren't up around you ears. I think they are a comfortable rise to wear if you have had babies!!

newgirl · 11/01/2007 14:04

that was so helpful superloopy!

I find it really hard to get 'designer' jeans too - I am a 12/14 5-7 and 10 stone - can't fit into the biggest 7 jeans or humanity jeans, and only just look ok in the largest levis I could find. Drives me mad as I have money to spend and am not exactly massive - I'm in 'normal' weight range!

I'm finding it difficult to get jeans, full stop! I'm 5'3", about a 10/12, but with a small waist and big bum/thighs. So invariably when I try something that I can get up over my thighs I get that sort of "bucket back" effect. Had a day in Leeds yesterday and must have tried on 30 pairs, as wide ranging as New Look and Seven for all Mankind! None were right. I'm starting to wonder if I should broaden my wardrobe and find an alternative "uniform" - but what would I wear if I didn't have jeans? These ones are about to die, I'll just have to become agraphobic then

superloopy · 12/01/2007 14:37

Oh poor you SAHM!! Maybe you could get ome jeans but have then altered to fit you in the waist better.

My DH has been a fitness freak for the past year and lost so much weight that his jeans were falling off him. He took his jeans into the dry cleaners and had each pair adjusted for £5 each and they look really good. You would never notice.

If you were to get some expensive jeans at somewhere like Selfridges they do have an alteration service which could make them perfect for you.

USAUKMum · 12/01/2007 14:53

SAHM I have the same problem with about a 10" difference between my waist and hips (and muscular thighs to boot). I've found that Monsoon jeans fit! Also, not sure if they are here yet, but Gap Curvy. are good too.

brimfull · 12/01/2007 14:54

have sent my boden sassy jeans back,am going to try gap tomorrow.

slightly put off boden now after mooooosli thread

OP posts:
StayAtHomeMummy · 12/01/2007 17:39

Thanks, will try Monsoon when they get a bit more stock in - very few jeans at the mo, I did have a look yesterday. Have just ordered some Boden ones to try too, the new stuff's on now so at least i have free postage/returns if they're not right. Will have a look at Gap too, haven't been in there for a while. Think I will throw myself on the mercy of the Harvey Nicks personal shopper if none of that works. The last time I bought jeans (2 1/2 years ago), she sorted me out with a pair that cost a bomb but were a great fit. But they're the ones about to die. Was just hoping to get something a bit cheaper this time!

And also yes, I could go down the alteration route if I can get something that looks halfway decent. Hopefully I'll find something, will give it a try next week.

Thanks
