do I pluck my eyebrows too much?? (hideous pic)

I am blonde and fair skinned but have dark eyebrows. Used to have a bushy monobrow when a teenager, felt self conscious and started plucking eyebrows at 16. Been doing it for last 20 (gulp!) years without thinking but now wondering if it's really ugly? Occasionally try to grow them out but lose courage at horrible stubbly stage and pluck them madly! What should I be doing?

Have you tried eyelash serum? It's insanely expensive but I heard it can help brows perk up.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 12/05/2016 08:59

While growing them out use an eyebrow gel just to tidy up and fill in what you do have. Benefit do great ones.

BestBeforeDate · 12/05/2016 09:01

Following a recommendation on another thread, I bought some Benefit Gimmebrow. It has little fibres in which stick to your own hairs, so it will fill in the 'bald' patches and make them look better while your waiting for HD brows or whatever. I have slightly overplucked brows but they just don't grow now and seem to be getting sparser post-menopause, and this product has transformed my face!

WeLoveHaribo · 12/05/2016 09:51

Benefit are running a promotion at the moment for free Eyebrow gel (poss the gimmebrow?) when you book a wax/tint.
Well done OP

How's it going?
I went through a similar thing a year or so and the inner bits only came back properly when I started using rapidbrow. I still use it most days, as if you stop they thin out again. IMHO it's well worth it, though.

midsomermurderess · 15/05/2016 09:49

Slightly random but it seems so very Australian this over plucking. Everyone I know on FB who is Australian has these thin, so old-fashioned brows.

runningLou · 17/05/2016 08:11

My resolution is wavering!! Cannot stand this look! Bit wider by nose, then thin and patchy, then thick at the far end. It's AWFUL! Please can I pluck them???

Haha!!

You've done awesomely well to leave them!

Book an appointment for next week, for a pro to shape them properly for you.

Once they're tidied up and shaped properly it will be a lot less emotionally painful waiting for all the regrowth to come back in.

2LittleMonkeysJumpingOnMyHead · 17/05/2016 09:05

If say rapidbrow then get them threaded after a month. They'll grow longer and thicker. I got hd brows as per all the advice and it didn't help in the medium to long term at all.

AlwaysNC · 17/05/2016 09:09

Honestly, they look better today than the first over plucked photo you posted! Make the appointment so you have a date to hold off until.

runningLou · 17/05/2016 14:00

Is rapid brow like a growth serum?

OP posts:
Gardenbirds123 · 17/05/2016 14:04

You're doing really well
TBH I think they look WAY better now than the first pic even though not "shaped"

2LittleMonkeysJumpingOnMyHead · 17/05/2016 16:30

Yep. It's a growth serum. About £20 on Amazon and lasts a couple of months. It was the only thing that got my over plucked areas growing back properly. I do find they thin out again if I stop, though :(

squoosh · 17/05/2016 16:57

Agree they look a bajillion times better than they did at the start.

runningLou · 21/06/2016 21:28

Don't worry this is not a zombie thread, this is my eyebrow update! It's been 2 months now and on one side I have pretty full growth and that one's definitely ready to be shaped (still haven't dared to go near a salon yet!) but on the other side I have some good growth but a hideous hole in the middle which just doesn't seem to want to grow back, and as far as I can tell there are no hairs there at all?? Is this a genuine bald patch, and if so, what can I doooooo?!

OP posts:
ApocalypseSlough · 21/06/2016 21:50
Grin Leave them alone and go to a beautician.
Tootsiepops · 21/06/2016 22:01

Time to get to a salon! You'll be amazed what a good beautician can do.

I have a little patchy, bald bit where I must've over plucked - I just fill it in with a pencil or powder.

Looking forward to the post-wax / thread photos!

WindTheFrog · 21/06/2016 22:02

Get them shaped properly and get a pencil or some powder (I like the benefit one) and just fill the patch bit. That's what I have to do after years of over plucking.

Patterkiller · 21/06/2016 22:08

Honestly. They will look fab after a professional has worked their magic.

I have mine threaded and tinted but I do still need to fill with a powder as I have some sparse bits and a patch of grey which is always a bit lighter.

Well done on the perseverance.

ladylambkin · 21/06/2016 22:10

I have a bald bit on one too I just pencil in. Well done!

CalmItKermitt · 21/06/2016 22:18

I was very late to the whole eyebrow thing but I'm a complete convert. Decent brows really do change your face. Even with no other makeup at all groomed/defined brows make a huge difference.

CamdenTownie · 21/06/2016 22:19

Buy Elle Magazine - the July edition has a free Benefit eyebrow pencil (just make sure you get shade 02)

I'm quite jealous - I have my eyebrows threaded every single week or I turn into a werewolf. My eyebrows are black which doesn't help either.

You've done well to get this far, don't give in yet, and whatever you do don't pluck.

Deux · 21/06/2016 22:20

Get some Rapid Lash and you can use it on your eyelashes and eyebrows. It may encourage growth in the sparse patch.

I've found Amazon the best price and much cheaper than Boots etc.

You've done really well.

EnidButton · 21/06/2016 23:39

Rapidbrow is fantastic stuff. It really works. Put some of that on every night and see if the sparser patch fills in. Might take a few weeks.

Otherwise just use an angled brush to fill it in with powder. Powder works better than pencil as it looks more natural and subtle.

You've done brilliantly. They honestly look much better than the first pic already.

EnidButton · 21/06/2016 23:49

If you're interested here's some brow grooming, filling in info...

Also remember that eyebrows are sisters not twins. I think it's trying to get them perfectly matched to each other that causes a lot of over plucking.
