Prescription sunglasses that look like sunglasses (not tinted glasses)

After various problems with my eye, I've been told (after 20+ years) that I can no longer wear contact lenses - at least for the foreseeable future.

I therefore need some prescription sunglasses (currently wearing sunglasses over glasses to drive on bright days and it is not a good look ).

I haven't been into a store yet, have only looked online, but all the prescription sunglasses seem to be "normal" frames with tinted lenses (so they look like glasses). I want big, round sunglasses like my Primark sunnies so they look like sunglasses. Don't really want to pay too much either.

Any recommendations?

Specsavers have quite a broad selection of sunglasses that can have prescription lenses put into them.

Glasses Direct put prescription lenses in my Ray Bans. I love them and they look great even if I do say so myself

Oh yes fizzy feet - something like that. Like this. I think I'll have to go to Specsavers or somewhere like that. I thought I could do it online cheaply, maybe not!!

I'm not sure about Ray Bans, I have never seen a style that would suit my face. But I will investigate, thank you!

If you've got frames that you like already then someone like glasses direct (other companies are available!) will put lenses into them if they're suitable. Probably would need to be a bit stronger frames than Primark specials but you get the drift

Be aware that if you have a strong prescription then smaller glasses are better rather than traditional large sunglasses.

Yes to Specsavers - I got my big round prescription sunglasses from there and I love them - best sunglasses I've ever had. They moulded them to fit my face perfectly. I also got them free with my normal prescription glasses which was a bonus

My sunglasses are Wimbledon and I think match your definition.

I also have prescription lenses in Raybans. I love them with a passion as at last i can have normal looking sunglasses.

specsavers have a great range of sunnies for prescription, but do take into account your actual prescription....if you have been wearing lenses is it a burly prescription?

High minus lenses will be thick at the edges, high plus can be very chunky all over and very heavy in the wrong style. As a pp said, large sunnies and high prescriptions are a bad combination!

I had prescription lens put into my normal sunglasses when my eyes got so bad that I need to wear varifocals instead of just readers. In fact I've had it done a few times.

My prescription sunglasses are from Specsavers.

They are Ray Ban style (but much cheaper).

I got them on a 2 for 1 when I got my latest pair of specs.

with that sort of prescription then there's really no limits!

my top tips for sunnies...
go BIG
dark colour
preferably plastic frame without the nose pads it's not cool having to extract hair from nosepads if you wear them on your head
grey lenses (much more neutral colour)
if you can afford it go for Polarising lenses....optically a MUCH better option for sunwear.
Reaction type lenses can be a choice, but really are no good for drivers, they won't go dark enough in the car.
Look at the Gent's spectacle range....loads of lovely mock raybannish style about atm that look fab as sunspecs.

I took in my non prescription Ray Bans and had prescription lenses put in. And also have some Jigsaw prescription sunglasses from Boots Opticians.

I got some lovely Carolina Herrera ones from Boots, and tbh they have a great range.

There's some £15 ones here that are really similar to my Primark £1 sunnies (I had them in three different colours) and cheaper than the £100 I spent!

Another vote for Specsavers. I was in there just today looking at their sunglasses frames.

A few years ago they didn't do any; you just had to put dark lenses in regular frames (which indeed looked rubbish), but they have a massive range now. £69 and upwards.

Mine are from Specsavers and so were my last pair, current ones are just their own brand but the last ones were Roxy I think. I have noticed over the last few years the range of actual sunglasses there has vastly increased thank God, it used to be a right pain to find them. They have more in the right time of year so if you start looking now I imagine they have just brought in lots of new ones what with it being April.
