I, like many other women, look to celebrities for style inspiration. If I like someone's haircut, I take a picture to my hairdresser, and discuss the possibility of whether I would be able to carry off something similar.
While reading a sleb twaddle website so sue me I came across the above revelation about Christina Hendricks (Joan in Mad Men). She has very thin hair, so wears wigs and hair pieces to supplement her hair, nearly all the time. This isn't a get at various celebs thread. If it is what she needs to boost her confidence, that is fair enough. What I want this thread to be about is how what we perceive celebrities to look, is not necessarily what they were born with, which makes it hard for the average woman to aspire to follow those looks.
I also discovered so many female celebrities have had very subtle nose jobs, some having many minor procedures, so the change isn't alarming at once. These include Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, Jennifer Anniston, Mila Kunis, Kate Beckinsale, Gwen Stefani and more.
I am just interested in your thoughts. Like I said, this is not a sagging off thread.

I knew it was going to be Canadian beauty editor - she gets so worked up about it all! Btw, be careful with that site.I used to read it all the time but then found myself becoming even more critical about my appearance than usual - and that's a lot! The way she tears into beautiful women at awards ceremonies etc is brutal.

Ah yes, I've seen that website before. She picks up on an extra nostril hair! Bit obsessive.

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/04/2016 13:33

Adele's had some makeover over the years hasn't she!

MadSprocker · 18/04/2016 14:04

I only looked at the transformations, not awards ceremony.

What a horrible blog.

Yet strangely obsessive.

Calista Flockhart has aged naturally so has her still hot partner.

It's hair that distresses me. I look at my own thinking frizzy perinatal curls and wonder how others my age have kept such smooth thick shiney locks. I'm looking at you especially Julia Roberts.

EachandEveryone · 18/04/2016 16:58

Peri menopause not natal god forbid mind you that's a whole new subject how come set celebs never look ravaged by childbirth?

My Dads exGF worked in the beauty industry and was a model still getting work at the age of 36 back in the day before it was more common. When I had a magazine and showed my Dad something I wanted she explained very nicely how it's an image and not real. She showed me her modeling pictures and how they were touched up. Yes her skin was flawless (dairy free diet), yes she had zero cellulite and had a figure I only dream of having (she never ate more than 1400 calories a day and did stretches for an hour upon waking) however she was extremely honest about the fact that her image was being used to sell a dream.

Christ, I feel so, so sorry for them. How on earth can they keep it up? The pressure must be awful.

I was never a raging beauty but was attractive. I'm 54 now and suddenly notice everything is beginning to "go". I feel worried about what people will think. How it is for "them", I've no idea.

JohnCheese · 18/04/2016 20:43

Agree Eliza, the pressure must be awful. As must the hunger. They must be hungry all the flipping time!
