I want pencil/tube skirts, at least 65 cm long sitting at natural waist, suited for hourglass figures and not just available in tiny sizes, ok for summer temps (not just polyester then)

Go!

Hang on, more info. Must be available online from reputable sellers who have size guides one can trust. My waist is 86-87 cm, my hips 110/111 or so. Nothing too flimsy or thin single-layer jersey, it just shows off my flesh ruffles. Grin I'm looking madly and find nothing. Prefer midi lengths, i.e. 65-75 cm. There's a challenge!

(incidentally I'm not very hourglassy, but judging by the way clothes are cut these days I'm like Joan from Mad Men apparently)

Jersey tube skirt from pure collection, I bought one on eBay

ChishandFips33 · 12/04/2016 20:00

Topshop used to do a double layer tube skirt; I'm too old to shop there now so don't if they still have them

I have the grey midi and it's very thick and forgiving of the cellulite!

tediumdevision · 12/04/2016 20:37

American apparel! They do fantastic tube skirts with a wide band at the waste

TheMightyMing · 12/04/2016 22:19

I have two from whistles in black and navy, they are very good.

banivani · 13/04/2016 07:49

I love the Pure collection ones! Am sitting here looking askance at my clothing allowance. The jersey one looks very very promising, sadly all the others seem to be 64 cm which is too short. :( Might email them and ask if the hems are deep though, they could be let down then. I think I'll have, as we say in Swedish, ice in my stomach and try to hold out for a sale! Will also check Ebay, I gave it up for a bit coz fewer and fewer sellers shipped abroad. :)

I boycott American Apparel because they are sexist abusive fuckers. So it would be typical if they have the clothes of my dreams wouldn't it...

Will look at Topshop! Double jersey is my thang. But the Topshop figure is not my figure, generally speaking.

I have this one from the White Company. It's more fitted on me than on the model and I love it.

banivani · 13/04/2016 10:18

Oh very nice (if a little more fitted as you say Grin - and wonderfully on sale but sadly sold out in my size. Ah well. I'll keep them in mind. :)

Yeah I hear they don't have a great track record but the others listed aren't exactly ethical. Maybe AA stings more because their branding feeling like a bit fat lie. Try Depop for second hand stuff. I'd be more comfortable buying any brand second hand than most new. And Depop have a vast selection

vitaminC · 13/04/2016 18:28

I'm a similar shape and I have a couple of thick jersey (ponte) ones from Baukjen that I'm happy with. Thick enough to hide lumps and bumps and hang well, anyway Smile

banivani · 13/04/2016 20:23

Baukjen is my dream, but it will have to wait until they lower their shipping rates. Principles!

Tedium - no, I know, but AA are just so blatantly exploitative of staff I just couldn't. Although secondhand I might. If the label was hidden. I'm a hypocrite. Will keep an eye on Depop! .

thanks to this thread I have just ordered the Jaeger Colette one. Will report back.

IlonaRN · 13/04/2016 20:51

The new Kettlewell skirt is lovely, but not quite long enough for what you're looking for, sorry.

banivani · 13/04/2016 22:27

Backing: good work! Grin I want the works, also review on sizing including your measurements to compare with size chart so start looking for your tape measure ;)

Kettlewell are on my must try list, as soon as I find a style I want in the colours I want. :) but their skirts are dismally short imo. ;)

OK (gulp) Grin

I am hefty of hip so you could say very hourglassy or you could say very fat and bottomy.

banivani · 14/04/2016 07:55

God yes I don't know what to call myself. I always thought I was fat my whole life and now, at 40, looking at old photos, I just see a slim and rather pretty young thing. Youth is fecking wasted on the young, isn't it. I actually borrowed Trinny and Susannah's body shape book from the library to see if they could offer some insight into my body shape but I dunno. A gobletvase? Anyway, all modern skirts seem to have waists that are too big for my hips and I'm too lazy to alter them. :( so I was hoping for good tips here. :) am tired of the dropped waist thing, so uncomfortable! I want my clothes pulled up riiiiight up under my boobs plz.

I'm with you on the low waisted thing. Cannot bear it - results in baring bottom when crouching down. Why is that good? As high waist as possible is what is required.

Colette has arrived - comments are: nicely made and lined, sits at true waist, quite worky. It has a little bit of cotton in it (7pc) but you can't really tell as it feels like a nice fabric but not cottony. I was surprised to see it has cotton in it actually. So that might not pass your suitable for summer test. It's cut quite straight down (rather than close at the knee) so doesn't give much wiggle wiggle if that's what you are looking for Grin

Sizing - I think Jaeger come up really large. So your size or a size down.

Backingvocals · 14/04/2016 17:12

Oh and it's indigo rather than navy.

banivani · 14/04/2016 17:18

Thanks! But enough with the sizing comes up large thing - tell me your measurements and the size you bought and that will give me facts, missus! Grin although it does sound like the fabric is not quite right for summer.
