Replacing all eye make up because of blepharitis - what can I do about expensive brushes?

I'm trying to sort my eyes out

After 2 weeks with no make up and doing the daily hot flannel/baby shampoo treatment recommended by the optician, I'm supposed to repeat the treatment twice a week. This hasn't worked too well so I have to go back to the daily treatmentand. I think my eye make up and brushes might be the culprit.

After this fortnight of no make up and daily treatment, I'm going to ditch all my eye make up and get new (not as pricey as it sounds - eyebrow gel, 2 eyeshadows and a mascara will do the job and an eyeliner for occasional use). I don't want to have to replace my 2 Bobbi Brown brushes as well though.

Will anything sterilise them thoroughly and leave them in a fit state?

Really pleased they helped today - hope they continue to help! I honestly can't believe the change in dd's eyes since starting with them - it's the blue ones misspym Will take a pic.....these ones are the travel pack but it's more economical to use the bigger wipes and cut them up into squares I've read.

Yes those are the ones DH brought me too. It does say to rinse thoroughly if there's contact with eyes but I didn't do that. Maybe I should have? Confused

Thanks for the tips Rock. I might just chuck the brushes and get cheapo ones for now. I'm sure I could ask for new decent brushes for a birthday or something later.

Ignore the pack instructions! we have been wiping gently but thoroughly back and forth on dd's eyelids to get rid of any of the crustiness that appears and not rinsing. Also cleared this with her ophthalmologist who said it was fine.

Blush I said on a thread the other day not to take medical advice from anyone on here but if you would like the details of the ophthalmologist pm me and I'll send them across!

I have had posterior blepharitis for over 2 years and never considered makeup as an issue, wondering if I should? I was told once you have it, it reoccurs all the time and it's a condition rather than infection. I have used gel pack I got in optician and heat in microwave which is great. My eyes get worse if I'm stressed but make up doesn't seem to aggravate it and I wear eye makeup daily.

Strawberry I'm just choosing to trust you Smile
That gel pack sounds like a good idea pudsey better than faffing round with hot water and flannels. I don't really get crusty eyes - they just get red and sore.

I suffered for 8months with blepharitis was under the eye hospital for months. I did the baby shampoo 4 times a day for weeks and used drops 4 times a day. This then changed to twice a day. I would be clear of it a day or two then it would be back. My eyes were blood shocked too could not see the whites in my eyes.
I then had some private tests for something entirely different and took a course of alternative tablets (herble) along with antibiotics to kill a parasite in my stomach. Which can present itself in many outlets of our bodies.
I never brought new make up apart from mascara my brushes I just washed them in hot soapy water. My eyes have been clear ever since which I well over a year now I don't use baby shampoo or any protocol the hospital told me I would always have to do.

Seconding Pudsey here: blepharitis is a condition rather than an infection, so no need to bin brushes. And I also absolutely swear by my microwaveable eye pad - so much easier and more pleasant than a hot flannel! I lie on the sofa with mine on for 5 minutes twice a day if I feel a flare up coming on, and it really sorts it out. I'll try and find a link for you.
