Anyone seen a swimsuit to cover the top of my thighs?

My beautiful newborn has left me with less than beautiful purple stretch marks all over the top of my thighs and few on my hips as well, so I am looking for some swimwear that will cover the worst offenders! My stomach has not been too badly affected by the marks so a bikini would be OK but I would rather a one-piece.

Has anyone seen any suits that might be alright? I'm thinking something with shorts on the bottom half, and preferably some sort of ruching and shape management for the belly. Any ideas as to where to look? I liked the look of this sort of thing Swimsuit but the reviews for the site are terrible.

Also I could try a tankini but having worn them in the past I have found the top drives me crazy riding up and I have to keep yanking it down... perhaps that is just me?

Age - early 30's, size 12/14 at the moment but looking to lose some baby weight.

Budget - not really an issue but nothing crazy. Maybe up to about £50? I've been wearing the same swimsuit for years so don't even know where to begin looking.

I got a swimming costume from sports direct with shorts type legs rather than the usual cut. Think it cost me about £15.

Are you breastfeeding? If so, a separate top and bottom might be easier for you.

There are lots of swim dresses around, as well as skirtinis. Or you could buy a skirt bottom and wear a regular bikini top with it.

But, to be perfectly honest, most people are far more concerned about their own appearance while swimming to even look, let alone notice, what others look like. Wear whatever is comfortable and is something you like :)

The swimming costumes with legs are the most unflattering things and IMO (unless someone's seen some I haven't) the dresses are designed for people well past retirement age. If your tums Ok, I'd go for board shorts and a bikini top.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Really useful food for thought. I hadn't even thought of skirts or board shorts and yes I am breastfeeding - another thing to consider!

I bought a swim dress from simply be. It was fantastic. Felt so confident in it.

I've currently got shorts and a tankini from Boden which are not massively unflattering, which is my main ask of swimwear after 2 kids.

that M and S thing is frump-a-rama. Board shorts are good for splashing about, but not for actual exercise swimming.

if you are swimming you are underwater and cannot be seen clearly, like it matters anyway. The Sports Direct boyleg is good and cheap, and doesn't disappear where a swimsuit shouldn't. Also looks quite good.

I always were a swimming costume or tankini with lightweight running shorts on top sort of like these. They are lightweight so don't become sodden and dry easily after.

Or I wear a swim skirt either on top or swimming costume or with a tankini top but Iv found they hold more water so it gets heavy unlike the shorts.

I tried on a couple of the sport direct shorts ones but I felt like a beached whale in them!

Others might feel ok but I felt it drew attention to my stomach, I also felt like my legs were huge in the shorts although for you it's the marks you want to cover so it would be ok.

By the way I bet no one else would even notice, I have scars so I understand the want to cover certain areas but I bet you would look great and no one would even bat an eye!

I have this speedo swimsuit, which is widely available in shops and great to swim in. Any good? Are the legs long enough?

I got some swim shorts from FatFace (of all places) last year. They are comfy, fit well, and come to mid thigh. I teamed with a tankini top, and didn't find riding up a problem, but I often size up a lot for tops as have huge boobs.

Swimshorts/board shorts and a bikini or tankini are my favoured options, there are so many around now.

I suppose it depends upon what you want the swimsuit for. If its holidays then don't think the speedo one would be that great unless you are doing serious swimming on the beach. If its for the swimming pool in a sport centre, then the speedo is very good. Good to have a few. The speedo, a skirted one [ super flattering imo] and board shorts and a tankini.

The speedo type ones cover all the right places but I'm not a serious swimmer, will really just be splashing around with the baby and perhaps wandering around eating ice creams... I am liking the idea of a skirted suit, I have never thought of wearing something like that before. I'm near a Debenhams so will seek that out to try it on.

The marks on my thighs really are a mess at the moment, they only appeared about three months ago so are very deep and dark purple at the moment. I'm not mega self-conscious but I would definitely feel happier if they were mostly covered up!
