Really fed up now with skin problems!!

My skin is hypersensitive, dehydrated, spot prone and rosacea prone!
Anyway I've always struggled with products and make up but have settled on a cleanser and moisturiser which seems to be the best of a bad bunch although not perfect by any means!
I had the perfect foundation but they discontinued it and I have been trying since to find something that doesn't upset my skin! I thought I had found something ok but now I think they have changed formula as my skin now reacts to it! So once again I have been trying to find something, using samples etc adding primers to make them work better etc but now my skin has freaked out and gone red, hot, stingy and spotty!!
Primer was ideal as had that barrier between moisturiser and make up but the ones that actually worked taking away shine and smoothing texture and pores etc are silicone based, feels great but gives me whiteheads.
Arrrrrrrrgh!!! Just needed to rant cos so sick of this!

Yes Jo I remember your foundation thread now. I like the Stay Perfect too, Instant Radiance is lighter. I've not used a primer before but bought a Body Shop one on Monday when I bought their foundation which is the best colour match I've ever found! I'm hoping the primer doesn't break me out......
Also, worth trying is Green People's No Scent range, they do a cleanser and a moisturiser which you can use day and night. Very mild, no fragrance and they're a good company to deal with.

Just looked on their website and they have 15% both products until 9am tomorrow morning.

Plus they do a 28 day no quibble refund thingy so you can return if your skin did react to them.
I'm off now.....!

Hope I don't offend you by asking, but how do you apply your foundation and other make-up? If you use brushes, bear in mind you need to wash them very regularly to prevent bacteria building up that they will then transfer onto your skin. Boots No.7 do a good brush cleanser, but washing up liquid works fine.

Coconuts is the instant radiance more dewy than the stay perfect? I might test it out again, not sure lol. Which body shop foundation did you buy?? And have u tried it yet?
I really really disliked that scent free range from green people I'm afraid :( thanks for suggestion though.

I use a real techniques sponge to apply my base, I wash it regularly so it's not that, but thank you for your help am not at all offended x

Yes the Instant Radience is more dewy than the Stay Perfect but gives a sheer coverage so not as good for the spotty days! Body Shop foundation is the moisture one, it's lovely but I still need to conceal the red spot marks. That said, I don't like full coverage so am happy with a lighter foundation to even out etc rather than look like I've put it on with a trowel!

For tips on foundation coverage for spotty days, video from Lisa Eldridge is quite good. She basically says that as not every part of your face is affected by spots, you can use a lighter more sheer foundation and then build up on spottier areas for better coverage with a (matched) different foundation. Better done with a brush than fingers for application. Her video is long but really clever.

Other than that, advice that often goes along with washing brushes regularly is changing your pillow case regularly. Like I say, this stuff may not make much difference if you're prone to spots genetically anyway but if they only crop up sometimes you might have some luck with it.

Evidence-wise, the only link with diet and spots found so far is dairy intake and high GI foods.

If you are very sensitive be careful with 'natural' products containing citrus and lavender oils. Lavender is an irritant and I had to stop using the lovely Bobbi Brown serum foundation as it contains lavender which was irritating my skin. Ditto for limonene/linalool which is in nearly everything.

I use Bare Minerals neutralising primer which is really good on my red skin. It's yellow based and does an amazing job of toning down my flushing.

I tend to stick to fragrance free these days because I have an allergy to fragrance ingredients. I'm currently using Cerave cleanser and moisturiser which is actually very good. I admit I do like Green People scent free moisturiser because it's very very soothing.

Another range that works for me is Nivea Sensitive day and night creams; for something really cheap it's very good on my skin.

Agree about citrus essential oils ruby but a couple of drops of lavender ess. oil mixed with a pure 'carrier' oil like Argan or almond . Is probably as pure as you can get. I never buy popular branded stuff any more because i''ve always had bad reactions to them.

If I need a richer cream I use shea butter; sometimes I mix that with rose ess. oil and or almond oil to loosen it.

Jo the Body Shop foundation is somewhere between the two No 7 ones......not as much coverage as I'd get from Stay Perfect but def not as dewy (shiny!) as Instant Radience. As I said, the colour is bang on for me which probably helps as I like foundation to even out my skin and look very natural. I've got the moisture one but am tempted to try the one the do for an oiler skin too now.

I too have suffered with over sensitive skin and my Grandson especially since moving to Oxfordshire. I know i have a reaction to Chlorine so i will be installing a water softner. However, i have now decided to change all my skin care washing ingrediants and washing powder/liquid to SULFATE FREE AND PARABEN FREE. Which i may add isn't overly expensive. I have been using these products for 2 wks now and my skin dosn't itch or have red blotches as bad as it was. In fact it has improved greatly. But i cannot seem to find if Fairy non bio is free of these ingrediants. Holland & Barratt do have one, which i will purchase, but wanted to know about Fairy.
