Either H&M are bonkers or I am delusional

Grabbed this skirt last time I was in H&M. Not terribly exciting, but I thought it looked useful. Picked up a size 14.

Couldn't be faffed to try it on. Was in the queue to pay when I looked at it again and decided it was cut on the small side so I switched it for a 16. Am generally a fairly standard 14 with the odd 12 thrown in on a good day. Oh well.

Got home. Couldn't do the bloody thing up!

Back to H&M. Switched the 16 for an 18. I have never worn an 18 in my life. Tried it on this time, just to be safe. Horrendous!! Could squidge my tummy to death and get it done up, but all buttons gaping. So tight it was indecently short.

They didn't stock a size 20! I switched the blasted thing for store credit and came home.

Surely I can't have jumped from a 14 to a 20 without noticing? H&M are bonkers, right? Please could someone reassure me? Or set me straight? I am rather bloated at the moment, but my old clothes still fit, so surely...

I have the same problem with H&M, I posted about it a while ago. I'm a 12, but a 12 in the trousers I liked arrived and was the size of an 8- 10, bought a 14 instead, and even that was snug! Their sizing does seem quite random. I've had similar issues in Zara- when i was a small size 8 pre babies I would sometimes have to buy a Large in Zara.

You need to shop in Gap. Their sizing is very generous and I always leave their changing rooms feeling like I've lost about two dress sizes and that I'm entitled to gorge myself on chocolate for the rest of the day.

I'm too scared to try H&M trousers on since the last time. I was a size 10 at the time, but couldn't get anywhere close to doing them up, I probably would have needed a 14 or 16, but no way was I going to do that. I left the shop hating myself. I will now only try stretchy clothes on in H&M.

I don't know how they stay in business.

Hit and Miss is right whoever said that! They do have some nice stuff though. To be honest I really need to try on in most shops but dp cant bear it if I try stuff on in the shops so I end up trying at home then having to return stuff which is a pita.

I agree that gap is generous and getting more so, however, it's also hit and miss sizing wise as some trousers in one size fir perfectly but another style in the same size could be massive or too small.

You get what you pay for. I love H&M, but they are cheap and stuff like this is bound to happen. From my experience shopping there, clothes are either too big or too small and it makes the whole process frustrating...until you find that perfect item.

So yes, I'm not entirely put off yet!
