I haven't worn glasses for a few years although I should have, and I am finally going to the optician today.

What sort of styles are we going for these days?

Ive got shoulder length brown hair which should be died and washed for that matter roundish face largish features. Blue eyes.

Casual lifestyle mostly sahm although I. Am trying to smarten up somewhat.

Any suggestions?

I've always done well in Specsavers, but maybe that's because the staff in my local branch are so helpful. They also have a camera thing, so you can take four "selfies" and look at them all together - it makes it really clear which ones work and which ones don't. But you can't rush these things! Go without DCs, maybe take a friend, and take time over the decision.

Don't be swayed by the "designer" ranges - sometimes you are just paying extra for a snazzy logo, which personally I detest. My current ones are plain black, slightly cats-eye, but not too heavy. As soon as I put them on I just knew they were right.

If I had to buy a pair now, I'd probably look for something dark tortoiseshell, ray-ban-type shape, fairly large. Personally I'd avoid metal frames, frameless, and those small rectangular frames that were all the rage a few years ago.

If you are very short sighted, you shouldn't get glasses with big lenses as they will be very thick at the sides, even with the ultra thinning down.

I think you should ignore fashion and go for what suits your face shape.

If you're in London try Bailey Nelson they have fashionable glasses for around £100 including lenses. They are pretty good quality and a bit more interesting than Specsavers

I have a round flabby aged face and I'm currently sporting dark tortoiseshell fairly narrow rectangular Ray Bans and I love them. Cats eye does not suit me which I'm devastated about!

Cats eye suits my face shape, but I'm not young and hip enough for it to look anything other than old lady in them.

It usually takes me a few trips to find something I really like. Sometimes I turn out to be just not in the mood. Sometimes my hair is having an off day so everything looks blah. Sometimes I like them all, but I have a big ''eed, so can quickly narrow down by what fits me. I do best with a 140mm side arm, which isn't so easy to get in anything that's not too masculine even for me.

Specsavers have an app which is slightly useless, but can be good fun.

I love cats eye. They give me my cheekbones back.

OP if you're happy with your prescription you should consider Glasses Direct as well. They'll post you frames to try at home (apologies if someone has already said this!). DH got his last set of glasses from there and v happy with them.
