Can anyone recommend a foundation for dry/dehydrated skin which gives a nice light coverage and doesn't emphasise dryness BUT also doesn't go bloody greasy and make me look like I've dipped my face in oil!!!
Also needs to be fragrance free!!!

MrsBojangles I use a sponge (not ideal I know but I prefer it). You really do only need a small amount.

parissont · 23/03/2016 14:34

i use lanacane chafing gel as a primer under foundation and its brilliant

£6, lasts forever and means I don't get a greasy face (the bane of my life for the last 35 years)

m0therofdragons · 23/03/2016 14:36

My skin is dry and reacts to everything. Clinique is highly perfumed I discovered. I use boots No7 stay perfect foundation and it's great. Occasionally I try others but always go back to it.

Indecisivejo · 23/03/2016 15:17

Sorry what's Mars??

SalmonMaki · 23/03/2016 15:23

OP, I think they mean NARS.

Indecisivejo · 23/03/2016 15:40

Ohhhhhh nars lol that would make more sense! I thought there was a brand that had been hiding from me!! Ok so if it was meant to be nars then there isn't a counter near me grrrrrr.
Went out today and tried (on back of hand) urban decay naked skin, Estée Lauder double wear light, the new no7 beautifully matte light, and Elizabeth Arden pure finish mineral tinted moist. All were too obvious looking for me, no7 one very powdery! Apart from the Arden tint which was orange!!! I tried the lightest shade!!
Got a sample of the Clinique universal primer (it's less silicone than others so hopefully won't break me out) so gonna try that tomorrow with the no7 stay perfect foundation I already have at home.

Ah, that's probably where I was going wrong then, was using my fingers. Shall invest in one of those beauty blender thingies and give it another go.

emsyj · 23/03/2016 19:32

MsBojangles I use the Face Atelier foundation on clients (I do makeup as a bit of a sideline) and I use the Real Techniques buffing brush and/or stippling brush. It makes it super easy.

MsBojangles · 23/03/2016 19:53

Ooh great, I have one of those somewhere, will give it a go. Thanks!

OnAHamsterWheel · 23/03/2016 21:09

Your skin sounds exactly the same as mine. I use Boots No. 7 Essentially Natural and find it much lighter than the stay perfect and doesn't cling to any dry patches. It is very light and evens out my skin without looking like I am 'made up'

lamiashiro · 23/03/2016 21:25

emsyj I've tried a foundation brush and found it gave a bad finish and took about three times as long to apply. Is there a trick I'm missing?

PollyPerky · 23/03/2016 21:31

mother Clinique is all unperfumed. Its one of their main selling points. If their products make your skin break out or sore they will refund you.

Indecisivejo · 23/03/2016 22:00

OnAHamsterWheel....the essentially natural is actually worse on me, weird isn't it how something can work great for someone but be awful on someone else even with similar skin concerns.

I like how my thread has been hijacked without even a sorry Grin

That's crazy OP, skin is a truly mysterious thing! Hope you find something to suit Smile

emsyj · 24/03/2016 15:14

Maybe you are applying too much lamiashiro - if it is taking ages to blend, you have too much product. Dot with your fingers and use less than you think you need, then blend with a dry brush. Dont dip the brush into the product as if you were painting. Build up a little at a time. A stippling brush with varying length bristles (like Real Techniques) or a dual fibre stipple brush is the easiest type to use. A flat top kabuki brush (Sigma make a lovrly one) is good too but will tend to give quite heavy coverage - good for evening makeup.

Portabella24 · 24/03/2016 16:59

Based on a recommendation here I tried Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and I think it's the business. I'm 44 and have tried hundreds from the inexpensive to the eye-wateringly expensive (I'm looking at you Dr Zelens) and honestly this is the best I've found and my skin type is also dry. I would agree that less is more where foundation is concerned though.

I bought today, from SpaceNK Algenist repairing tint and blur moisturiser

I will never buy anything else, I put sunscreen under it nothing else, it is light covers well and moisturises.
I have patches of pigment and other marks on my face and it all just looks great, really natural. I almost went back to the shop to thank them. I was sick of the full coverage for daytime wear, I want to look nice not covered in foundation, (which looks good in the evening) so I recommend that, my full coverage is Laura Mercier which needs a primer under it, I would say in daytime less is more and this is it !

CoolToned · 24/03/2016 20:40

YSL Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation. Get it if you still can. I have not tried the reformulated version which is supposed to have higher coverage, less dewy, but the original is oh-so-pretty.

midnightmoomoo · 24/03/2016 20:41

I've read your posts on other threads and your skin is similar to mine in being rather reactive. I used No7 Stay Perfect but last time bought the Instant Radiance one and I really like it, light but not shiny. I'm never sure about the obsession to look 'dewy', to me it just looks oily!

Indecisivejo · 24/03/2016 21:17

Thanks for all your suggestions people, although majority of them are not fragrance free I have checked ingredients on them.

Coconuts....hi :), I'm sure I've tried the instant radiance one in the past but if I remember rightly I was also trying lots of other things which I've learnt my skin doesn't like so may ask for a sample to try again thank u, I'm still using the stay perfect but am trialling a different primer underneath (my skin breaks out with anything heavy in silicones!) I hate the dewy look! Hence the primer I want to be matte but not dry looking!

Sorry missed the fragrance-free part.

Koh Gen Do is bloody brilliant.

www.beautylish.com/s/koh-gen-do-maifanshi-aqua-foundation-002

Bloody expensive too (for me, at least - there are more expensive products I have swatched like Chantecaille and By Terry but I like KGD more).

Oops I did mean Nars and not Mars! Grin
