Drying your hair at night

Because of limited time in a morning, when I was my hair, I really need to do so at night. However, I can't get into the shower until after 8pm and because we go to bed early - say 9.15 - 9.30 - my hair's not totally dry when I go to bed. I then wake up with one side of my hair flat, with a wave somewhere above my ear where it was rested against the pillow all night. I look like I've slept against a wall. Sad

I've been trying to do morning showers instead, on days when I need to wash my hair, but we have to be out by 7.30 and DS makes the most of me being upstairs and "forgets" to put his uniform on until he's nagged to do so. It was chaos this morning and the final straw - I have to find some way of washing my hair at night and waking up without looking like Lady Macbeth.

I have short, ear length, straight hair if that helps.

Any suggestions?

Hair slides/grips and Batiste Dry Shampoo are my saviours on the rare occasions when I can't wash my hair in the morning - a semi up-do, where I just pin back the sides of my hair, work well.

Run some straighteners over the kinky bits in the morning?

When I was a student and had chin-length hair I used to sleep with it in a hair net after blow-drying it.

BlueLeafTea · 22/03/2016 12:59

I out a towel on my pillow and drape my hair over it so I'm not really lying on it

Stevie77 · 22/03/2016 13:54

Could you not just dry your hair with a dryer at night?Hmm

InternationalHouseofToast · 22/03/2016 14:08

Stevie, I do but because it's not bone dry I get the kinks overnight.

I don't understand why you don't use a hairdryer?

Tate15 · 22/03/2016 14:09

Finish off blow-dry with cold settings to make your hair completely dry.

Stevie77 · 22/03/2016 14:51

Just dry it fully? That's what I do, no kinks.

fiorentina · 22/03/2016 19:18

I tie my in a scrunchie when damp and use it to crest waves for the next morning. Would that work?

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 22/03/2016 19:22

We - dry it until it IS bone dry?

Or wet it again in the morning without washing it and dry it properly.

CheeseGerm · 22/03/2016 19:26

I never dry my hair because it's too thick and long so after washing at night I either put it up in a ballerina bun or in a loose braid. Bun gives the ends a nice curl under and braid gives it loose waves. Maybe try that?

BatteryOperatedBoyfriend · 22/03/2016 19:27

Wash it in the evening so its clean, in the morning spritz it with some water and blow dry it tidy.

northernlostsoul · 22/03/2016 19:32

Blow dry it until it's dry?

VulcanWoman · 22/03/2016 19:36

Sounds like you aren't drying it completely with the hair dryer. I would rather do my hair at night, the puffiness calms down by the morning then.

Thisismyfirsttime · 22/03/2016 19:42

I put mine in a bun right on top of my head but I find I get lots of split ends where it's tied so I don't do it often.
If I sleep on it wet and it goes funny I blast it with the hairdryer on cold in the morning for a minute or so upside down and a minute or so brushing it through and it turns out ok. I have lots of very fine straight hair though so it gets funny kinks quite easily but they're easy to get rid of.

northernlostsoul · 22/03/2016 19:52

It's short! She can't tie it up!

hollieberrie · 22/03/2016 20:12

I have this problem. I get round it by just not washing my hair very often! I usually dry and style it beautifully on Sunday and then drag that out til at least Wednesday by using dry shampoo (and protecting with a shower cap when i shower).

Then Thurs and Fri i just wash and put up with a big claw clip - even if your hair is short you might be able to do this, mine is a bob and bits of it fall down but i still think it looks nice - sort of a messy up do.

allegretto · 22/03/2016 20:18

You must have masses of hair, you lucky thing. It takes me 3 minutes to dry mine.

hugoagogo · 22/03/2016 20:38

Mine is short and straight too, if I wash it at night it usually dries pretty quickly, but even if it is properly dry it always ends up kinky in the morning.

I just wet it a bit and comb it into place when I clean my teeth in the morning.

I never feel the need to use a hairdryer.

Pigeonpost · 22/03/2016 20:40

Maybe you need a new hairdryer if it's not drying?

midnightmoomoo · 22/03/2016 21:59

I wash mine every other night. I have a jaw length Bob and my hair is thick and wavy. I shower around 7.30 as DS2 goes to bed. If I don't dry it, I have to straighten it in the morning. Otherwise I blow dry it then straighten it, and it's OK in the morning. Dry shampoo on day two.
I use Liz Earle hair oil which is meant to reduce drying time and it certainly seems to do this.

Donge13 · 22/03/2016 22:04

Hairdryer??!!

happyis · 22/03/2016 22:20

I have loads of hideous thick hair. I have to wash it at night too. I used to wash at night, roughly dry it then straighten in the morning with ghds.

However now I own a "steam pod" . They are steam straighteners that you can use on slightly damp hair. The best thing is that my hair stays straight between washes, unlike with the ghds.

I am a very low maintenance type of girl, so my steampod is a real life saver for me!

MentalLentil · 22/03/2016 22:27

I wash my hair at night, sleep on it wet and then dampen down the freaky bits in the morning. Then I air dry or hairdry depending on how much I can be bothered.
