Hi can anyone recommend a body wash that doesn't dry out skin? Itching like mad!

L'occitane almond body wash oil is lovely but sooo expensive.
At the moment I've put Elave into the end of my L'occitane bottle. Smile
I don't know what perfumes /parabens /sulphates are in L'occitane but Elave is very pure.

Aveeno contains SLS and cocomidopropyl betaine - which can irritate skin so it's hardly surprising if some people are sensitive to it.

I looked on Dove's website and while not all their body washes contain SLS, the ones that don't like the 'sensitive' skin version contains two ammonium derivatives, which are also lauryl/laureth sulfates like SLS, and again cocamidpropyl betaine. Also polybutene and polyisobutylene - which derive from crude oil or petrolatum.

carrie74 · 17/03/2016 14:58

I find all shower gels/body washes eventually irritate me (same with liquid hand soaps), so I just use a normal bar of soap (I use Dove), which is mush better for my skin.

ZaraW · 17/03/2016 17:01

I use Method Naked shower wash and also their foaming hand wash. It works well for my dry sensitive skin.

pussinboots61 · 17/03/2016 18:12

E45 wash cream, can be used on hands, face and body, SLS and fragrance free.

Tubbyinthehottub · 17/03/2016 18:17

I am itching just thinking about Dove. I like Sanex body wash and Aveeno body lotion.

Indecisivejo · 17/03/2016 18:20

It's so weird how some peoples swear bys are another persons hates!
Sanex for me was the equivalent of washing my body in washing up liquid! I was soooo dry and itchy (all sanex varieties) same with aveeno

hollinhurst84 · 17/03/2016 18:39

It depends I think!
If it's allergy related then obviously trial and error
If just dry skin (mine itches like mad) then maybe try a body oil to wash with?

Timeandtune · 17/03/2016 18:48

Neutrogena Rain Bath. It isn't particularly cheap but a little goes a long way.

Tubbyinthehottub · 17/03/2016 18:49

Oil makes me itchy!

Tubbyinthehottub · 17/03/2016 18:50

If you're mega irritated and dry you could try Epaderm.

Katarzyna79 · 17/03/2016 18:58

dr told me use a basic soap bar, glycerine one, so natural ones are the best. If it doesn't foam too much its good for your skin, otherwise its full of shite, well gp said so in not so many words lol

I'm still experimenting my issue is my hands. handwashes are the worst, so I would say stay clear on bodywashes, get a basic soap bar, white ones tend to foam less if getting from supermarket.

id try the natural handmade ones that's what I'm looking for now. lush type ones but cheaper, lush charge insane amount for 100g of soap???? Ive been researching seems like Shea butter hand made soap, goats milk soap are good uns ive yet to test, cheap ones on ebay. you can get off cuts of handmade soap in bulk very cheap, that's what I'm trying....

Dove didn't work for me, ive been trhough most brands in boots.

Those mini pears cream soap bars aren't bad my kids use them ive banned handwash. I think I got them from a cash and carry though, the pharmacy only stock the big orange one, that irritates.

Bath salt or pure sea salt will help with itching.

Or something like oilatum for kids would be good too puts oils back on your skin, you just use that no soap.

you can get e45 bodywash would be like a moisturiser in the shower should work if its severe . trial and error I'm afraid, but stay clear of major brands and shower washes and gels.

good luck

Indecisivejo · 17/03/2016 19:11

You say stay clear of major brands but sometimes these work for some people. I personally find natural bar soaps very drying but I'm fine with dove shower gel (only the caring oil one or Shea and vanilla) and my hands crack and flare up if I use anything other that dove original hand wash

Twinklestein · 17/03/2016 19:36

E45 cream is made from petroleum derivatives (paraffin) & can irritate eczema.

Katarzyna79 · 17/03/2016 22:47

indecisive i guess its different for everyone subjective?, I'm the other way round dove doesn't work for me either ive tried it. my hands are the only issue though i can put anything on my body fortunately doesn't cause skin problems. my face is sensitive too but not like my hands.

theres a foot cream that's been working wonders for my feet they also do creams for other parts of the body. it contains urea which is supposed to be really good for dry skin. its called CCS, available in boots, swiss formula. i highly recommend that OP no harm in trying it. ive been using the same cream on my hands intended for foot lol, it seems to do the trick.

Indecisivejo · 18/03/2016 07:07

I LOVE ccs foot cream

leadrightfoot · 18/03/2016 10:00

Oilatum works for me

CremOlafoam · 18/03/2016 19:33

Re glycerine soap- which I find the best as far as soap bars go. Muji do several at £1 or so, and Waitrose also do one with no flavouring as well. It needs to be the type that stays clear after use.if it goes white and squishy after a few uses, it's like fire on my skin.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 18/03/2016 19:59

Just wondering if anyone has ever changed the oiliness of their skin by changing their diet..I feel like a shriveled prune some days my skin is so dry and if a slight shift in eating would help, I would be willing to try it..
Not trying to derail the thread but I'm just curious if there a longer term solution

Gwenhwyfar · 18/03/2016 20:51

I didn't notice any difference when I used Aveeno and it's very expensive. I find Dove OK.

Theknitwitch · 19/03/2016 11:05

Thanks so much everyone for all the fantastic responses and great hints too. Really appreciate it. I'm off with my shopping list!

Anything by Aveeno. If your skin is very itchy, get some of the bath powder - you may have to order it form the pharmacy. It's a bit like putting finely crushed digestives biscuits in the bath, but it calms itchy skin better than anything else I've tried.
