Shoes -what do you think?

I really like these shoes but I'm not sure if I can pull them off. I'm mid 30s, size 12, wouldn't exactly call my style highly fashionable but like a bit of colour. I'm a secondary school teacher and would wear them to school possibly with black dresses and red accessories (belt, cardi, necklace) or patterned skirt with red in. Would also wear outside work with jeans or more casual skirt (thinking of my cath kidston mushroom skirt with red in it). They look so comfy and a bit fun to me. I'm just not sure if I'd look really frumpy in them or if I could make them work. They look like something my 5yo DD would wear but somehow this isn't putting me off.

Are we a) in 1970, or are you b) 5 years old? If the answer to either of these questions is no then you have your answer Grin

Nice but I wouldn't wear them. Although i did wear them aged five. Grin

They are HEINOUS. They say, "I am a martyr to my corns and I think that I'm a bit zany".

Please, please do not buy them.

What is it with teachers and terrible footwear today? I read a thread this morning started by a teacher who wanted to wear a summer dress with navy tights and another pair of hideous pseudo-child shoes from Clarks, in beige. When energetically dissuaded by concerned posters she argued for clogs with flesh coloured tights. Terrifying.

I like them, go for it!!

Sand they are quite wide (I have wide feet and fine for me) and can come in extra wide.

Hideous! Sorry.

HappyGirlNow · 15/03/2016 22:01

Oh my god. No.

I have a very similar pair which I'll be retiring this year as they are 8 and past it. I will be buying some.

I love them but I often choose fugly shoes. I actually own these shoes which I know 99% of the population think are an ugly monstrosity.

The red or dead ones look better than the clarks ones but both are nice and look very comfortable.

Glad you like your new shoes OP.

Definitely work with the mad hippy teacher look. tread carefully to avoid slipping into "I'm not actually an adult at all" territory- don't wear them with the kind of cutesy kiddie accessories that hippy chicks seem to find irresistible.

I decided a while ago, that if you're well dressed and well groomed, you can get away with footwear that's not necessarily high fashion. I came to this conclusion a few years ago, when ankle surgery rendered me (temporarily) in footwear's twilight zone - I found that many 'sensible'/comfortable shoes were actually quite wearable, and even though I'm now fully recovered, I found my journey into comfort had been quite an education, and its a hard habit to break .....
