Trousers for tall skinny teenage boy? Where?

Hi All,

Does anyone have any suggestions for trousers for tall skinnies?

DS1 is 12, almost 13, but is super skinny and long legged. For the past few years we have had the ever increasing problem that his legs have grown, body and waist haven't, so anything that doesn't fall down is about 3+' above his ankle...

He is 5'5 but legs are out of proportion. I measured last night and inside leg is just over 32', could easily get away with a 33' if they did it, waist just under 26. Legs very skinny- I have a picture from 18m ago where you can clearly see his knees are the widest parts of his legs... He eats like a horse.. or several horses before anyone comments... Sadly his skinny genes don't come from me, but 6'3 DH, with his 32' waist and 34+' inside leg, so I don't see him filling out for ages yet.

School trousers are ok, as they still have the elastic/button inside the waist- he is currently wearing age 15 TU, with the waist pulled in as tight as possible... but most shops either don't do teenage sizing, and go straight to men's at a generous 30' or stop age 13-16 but entirely the wrong shape.

Tried next skinnies in an age 16, this weekend, leg length ok, but waist and upper thigh huge- he looked like he was wearing old fashioned breeches with the excess flappy fabric on the hips!

The only trousers he owns at the min are a zara pair of skinny jeans age 14, that now are several inches too short, and a pair of age 13 h+m with a belt on them that distorts the cut badly as the belt is pulled so tight the tops are all rouched... and they are way too short too...

Can anyone suggest different shops to try?

Thanks

Replay, which you can sometimes get in TKMaxx.

A friend recommended Top Man for my tall skinny sons but there isn't one in my town...

Haha! Thanks so much for your reply! Yea, he's wearing one pair of the M&S 14-15 XL (he ripped one pair last week!🙄)....they are out of stock now and told me earlier they might be discontinuing them?! Argh! I thought the same....why is the 15-16 not a longer leg length than the 14-15?! Madness! Could still get another 6 months out of them I reckon....hoping the may come back in stock..,,
He also has a pair of Next 28" Long.... but they're too short...they came today....he said he'll wear them for now, but they'll be way too short in September! Wish he'd put some meat on his skinny waist!!!!😬😬😬
Such a nightmare!!!!!!

The nearest I've found is M&S extra long in the slimmest fit. I posted on this thread over a year ago when DS was quite a bit shorter than he is now. He's now 6'2" and has a 34 leg and is just about ok in M&S school trousers. I've found him a suit for 6th form next year in a Jaeger outlet shop. They seem to put out the unusual sizes in their clearance sales.

Leaf, I've just looked at the M&S trousers DS has just vacated -they appear to be the discontinued ones. They are an M&S age 14-15 XL 30 waist 34 leg in grey. The style no is T76 3974/08071.They have plenty of wear left (DS has just done GCSEs and will wear a suit next year) so if they are the right colour and you want them, I'll post them to you if you'll make a donation to charity!

My son is 14 and 6’8”. I have recently discovered M & S big and tall online which is great for school uniform. Also good for extra long in the body tops with extra long sleeves and size 14 shoes - a complete lifesaver!! Decathlon do ski pants called “slide” that are 35” inside leg with braces and belt loops so they won’t fall down if too big around the waist. For trainers in size 14 wide fit I use Amazon, I have never found this size in shops and with Amazon it is easy to return if they don’t fit. If anybody else has any top tips do please share as my son apparently still has another 2.5 “ to grow!!

Try Hollister.

For school trousers try Primark mens suit trousers.

I just remembered, ds said a lot of his friends wear women's skinny jeans because you can get the smaller waists in a variety of lengths.

My son has long legs but a bigger waist and thighs so not quite the same but he has next men's as you can order long.

A friend buys her super skinny son primark women's and cuts the label out!

Hi. Very interested in reading the posts regarding tall skinny boys, an experience I've been struggling with for over a year. He's 14 now, 5ft 8 with a 31" inside leg and 27" waist and have given up on High Street/online stores. Nowhere local stocks the small waist size and even if listed online they never seem to have any in stock or they sell by height which is completely irrelevant to leg length. This combined with the fact that he doesn't like the skinny cut or button flys either has made buying tousers impossible. My solution? I've taught myself to make trouser for him. He now has four pairs that fit well and look good, more importantly, they are comfy for him. They have a good turn up and can be let down too, although I am waiting for his ankles to reappear again. Even this is challenging as fabric shops are few and far between.
I'm just wondering how many mums go through this problem? When I've spoken to other mums it seems this was a problem 20 years ago too? Why is there this sizing gap? Are our children such a minority?

Have just found 28W 34L skinny black jeans in Uniqlo for my tall and skinny 14 year old. Not sure about 26W in there but have had success in River Island and Asos (skinny chinos) previously.

Has anyone mentioned Zara? They were useful, with Top Shop as the back up.
