I'm turning 30, where should I start shopping?

Kind of lighthearted! I used to shop at Topshop, H&M etc but feel Topshop is a bit young for me personally now.

I now have 2 young children and haven't been shopping in a while living in leggings and long baggy tops (breastfeeding).

For my 30th I'm going to get a new wardrobe. Where shall I start and what essentials do I need?

I like Mint Velvet, Whistles, Jigsaw for good one-off pieces.

I did try something on from Per Una not that long ago

keely79 · 04/03/2016 17:15

Similar to Mint Velvet etc:

Me+Em
Hush
Baukjen
Some Boden stuff (chosen carefully - their shoes are quite good)
Kin by John Lewis

I quite like online shopping - I know what looks good on me and can always return if disastrous without anyone seeing... Plus don't have to drag kids round the shops.

Nothing will make you look older than changing your style because you think yiu should! crikey, shop where you always have! H&m is great at the moment. As an ancient 37 yo I have just bought loads of nice skirts, tops, denim shirt and denim jacket in there. Asos also brilliant for tons of stuff. Warehouse and oasis decent for dresses. I love mango dresses too.

Jmangel · 04/03/2016 19:25

I find the older I get, and you're a young pup compared to me at 43, the easier it gets as I only really shop in a handful of shops. Makes it easier to find\buy stuff. So I only really look at Zara, Mango and All Saints in store and Asos and Sheinside online. Tbh I always hated Oasis\Warehouse but have outgrown Topshop and H&M. I would never look in John Lewis\Marks and Spencer\Monsoon\DP\Next but my out and out least favourite shop always is Debenhams - shocking shocking stuff!

Ginslinger · 04/03/2016 19:28

betty barclay and jaeger will do you nicely - Grin

seriously - wear what you love and you will look lovely - a smile carries you everywhere

toptomatoes · 04/03/2016 19:30

I'm 36 and shop in H&M, Gap, Mango. Oh and TKMaxx for jeans.

mogloveseggs · 04/03/2016 19:30

Thatstoast I got a bon Marche voucher from the in laws aged 31!
Op I'm turning 36 this month and shop at primary, Oasis, occasionally Dorothy perks, and h and m mostly.

Floisme · 04/03/2016 19:33

I regularly get catalogues for House of Bruar, Artigiano and Hotter, not to mention funeral plans. Would you like me to forward them?

NameChange30 · 04/03/2016 20:18

I forgot Warehouse!

Does anyone even get catalogues any more?!

Fugghetaboutit · 04/03/2016 20:20

This thread has made me Smile and feel all warm and fuzzy (probably from my new thermal underwear mostly and electric blanket).

Forgot about Zara and mango! Used to shop there loads but moved out of inner London so hardly see those shops anymore. Will look online as I can't shop anyway due to children

Yes.

NameChange30 · 04/03/2016 20:38

Seems like a waste of trees when there's online shopping. But each to their own.

Floisme · 04/03/2016 21:00

I don't ask for them - they keep sending them to me! They probably think I'm too old to have heard of the internet

KittyCatKittyCat · 04/03/2016 21:14

I've just discovered the place I've bought my new bikini from is... an 'older' store...
I thought the reviewers were all a bit older, I'm 30, and I genuinely liked this...
totally tropical lady bra

KittyCatKittyCat · 04/03/2016 21:16

Oh no I'm not 30 yet, agghhh it's already starting! I hadn't even heard of Marisota until today!

Gwenhwyfar · 04/03/2016 21:36

I'm a bit shocked to hear that Next is for the over 50s.

Fugghetaboutit · 05/03/2016 08:21

Sorry missed these replies, I was in bed at 9pm Brew

My find (especially with sales on) is Oasis.

They do some great stylish, well wearing t shirts, dresses, jeans etc. a bit different but not stand out.

Zara ok but not 100% me. H&M I find if you look they do fab basics (wrap round short cardigans with ties and without) a nice faux suede casual spring coat comes in both Black and Tan for £39.99, good LOGG basic casual stuff for everyday. Cos I can't get my head round. &otherstories nice but some stuff quite dressy, but good if you need date night or occasion wear which isn't Coast etc.

SuperFlyHigh · 05/03/2016 09:33

Top Shop did do 2 gorgeous long split length patterned skirts last summer (hard practical with kids but hey...) I got them in 2 nice prints and a short sleeved fine knit top in cream from there (which then stained easily and needed hand wash in machine) but don't discount Toppers no way! Quite a few S&B women rave about their anoraks from there, they do also do nice jumpers.

if your dept store has a vero moda concession they do the most brilliant basics with a twist, like Gap but trendy, skinny jeans, jumpers, tops, trenches and all very good prices (under £50). Bershka (Zara's concession range) also good for one offs like casual wear and cheaper prices as aimed at teens. Nice footwear too. Uterque (only online) are Zara's grownup range and have some very lustful and ££££ prices but great style wise.

TwoMag314s · 05/03/2016 09:35

you do sound old before your time.

You're a mother but that doesn't make you older than 30. You're still only 30.

Although, I do remember now, I never felt older than I did on my 35th birthday with a three year old hanging out of me wailing and a baby in my arms crying with colic. I feel so much younger a decade later.

So don't let the dc make you start shopping in jaeger and aquascutum.

TwoMag314s · 05/03/2016 09:37

I like the look of some oasis tops on line but when I go in to the shop and touch the fabrics I nearly recoil in horror. everything in there has a slimy feel to it. Not their knitwear or their jeans, I like those, but their tops. eeeeoooow.

NameChange30 · 05/03/2016 10:26

Yes I hate all the polyester and viscose crap. Have done for years. Most men's clothes are cotton but women get all the synthetic shit.

SuperFlyHigh · 05/03/2016 11:20

Twomag but to be fair where can you get non synthetic clothes these days?!

I did pick up about a year ago a floral cotton oasis top. We need to do a MN campaign less synthetic crap more cotton! gap off top of my head seems only store does cotton and it's so bloody boring!

Fugghetaboutit · 05/03/2016 15:57

TwoMag that's me! A 3 yr old and colicky newborn :( tiring shit.

Hoping I'll be in a better place by 40 and looking less tired

TwoMag314s · 05/03/2016 16:04

Yes, there is a lot of it but even if i like the cut/colour/pattern i know now that it'll end up unworn!
