Why does my hair never look or feel clean?

I'm having a S&B crisis this week - sorry for another thread.

Few months ago my hair started feeling a bit matted around the scalp, even straight after washing and conditioning. It's a bit hard to explain - it was only on the top of my head, and even then, not all of it. There were sort of clumps that felt like I hadn't washed the conditioner out properly.

Not sure what happened but it went away. But in the last week or so it's back again. I've just washed and dried it, being extra careful to rinse all product out. But it looks like we're on day 4 of not washing, and slightly clumpy. Sorry, I know I'm not explaining well but don't know how else to describe. It's not greasy, just looks it.

Any ideas what's up and how to sort it?

Tia.

Herbal essenses are far better at claryfying than the Tressame one

OttiliaVonBCup · 03/03/2016 08:22

juan
Does it smell?
Because, and I really don't want to offend in any way, but one of my dogs had something like this, a patchy waxy fatty build up, it was seborrhoea.
We used a doggie shampoo, which I would not reccomend Grin.

I think you need to try a clarifying shampoo! Tressemme do a good one

JuanPotatoTwo · 03/03/2016 09:12

Ottilia I don't think it smells but it's on top of my head so I can't get close enough to sniff! If none of the other stuff recommended works I'll be back for the name of your doggy shampoo!

bruffin - have added that to my list, thanks.

I have the exact same issue!! Tried every number of cleansing shampoos but my hair never felt clean. Then a friend who's sells whispers forever living suggested I try their shampoo as it's meant to level out the pH balance of hair. I was very skeptical and hate mlm but was desperate so gave it a go and I've never looked back!! It's brilliant... My hair is soft and shiney but bouncy and most important it's clean!!

HappinessLivesHere · 03/03/2016 09:16

Oops posted too soon!! It's more than I'd ever usually spend but only half way through my third bottle since sept. Highly recommend it.

MyNameIsSuz · 03/03/2016 09:27

I had this too and just wanted to add another shampoo and conditioner recommendation - Happy Hair Days, they sell it in Sainsbury's. I use the caffeine one for fine hair but there's also an argan oil one. Not too expensive either, usually £4 a bottle but quite often on offer. It's the only thing that worked for me!

OttiliaVonBCup · 03/03/2016 09:55

Oh the glamour of my S&B recommendations.

I ought to start a beauty blog.

I had this too. I tried different shampoos but nothing worked. Then my hairdresser said it was silicone build up (apparently Pantene is the worst offender) and a clarifying shampoo would shift it. It did. One wash was all it took, plus then another change to silicone free shampoo for a few weeks.

HeyNonnyMaybe · 03/03/2016 10:00

Surely you mean a beauty dog?

OttiliaVonBCup · 03/03/2016 10:04

That's It!

Genius!

Every single beauty advice you hoped you would never hear.

I'll have advertisers fighting for a crumb of the biscuits of my affection.

MackerelOfFact · 03/03/2016 12:43

My hair is hard to get properly clean and always feels like I have a greasy crown when I've not had a haircut for a while. I have thick hair, and there's a critical length it reaches whereby I can't penetrate the shampoo to my scalp and/or can't rinse it sufficiently.

Sometimes washing my hair in the bath helps, as your hair kind of floats around in the water (rather than being stuck to your head, as in the shower) and you get closer to the scalp - but essentially, getting a haircut sorts it right out.

JuanPotatoTwo · 03/03/2016 20:10

Progress report for you all (cos I know you'll have been on tenterhooks all day :) )

Could only find a Herbal Essences shampoo today (Clearly Naked 0%). Just used it and there's a definite improvement. Still a little bit of waxy clumping going on (God I'm so glam) but much less than before.

There is hope ...

What hairbrush do you use and do you clean it regularly? Because if you wash your hair then use a brush with build up of natural oils it puts them all back in.

Cakescakescakes · 03/03/2016 22:29

I found the herbal essences one pretty good too but it took the Redken to really knock it on the head. Glad you are seeing progress!

Notannabell · 06/03/2016 12:44

If you can get epsom salt it might be a bit cheaper than redken shampoo. Just massage it thoroughly with a diluted shampoo (I used to mix it in a cup) and leave for a few minutes. Once or twice a week should be enough.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 06/03/2016 15:36

This is product build up. The best treatment is vosene anti dandruff shampoo then get into the habit of using a clarifying shampoo once a week to prevent further build up.

susannahmoodie · 06/03/2016 16:38

I had this before barter my second dc, hairdresser said it was hormonal.

The only things that helped were:

Shampooing twice

Ensuring shampoo was totally clear in - nothing cloudy or opaque looking or hair would not come clean.

chumbler · 06/03/2016 16:49

Are you washing your hair somewhere different? This happened to me when I moved down south with harder water. Lemon juice sorted it (but bad for your hair so only an emergency solution!)

bruffin · 06/03/2016 17:12

My friend found that when they had a water softener installed that it was more difgicult to get shampoo out

JuanPotatoTwo · 09/03/2016 15:02

Just reporting back that the herbal essence stuff seems to have done the trick. It must have been product build up/silicone I think. Thanks for all the advice :)
