Anyone have experience of buying e-ring at Tiffanys?

As above really! Am lucky enough that my amazing DP has said when we go to Vegas next month he will be taking me to Tiffanys at the Bellagio to pick out my engagement ring! Am unbelievably excited, its always been a dream for me to do this which he knows but never thought it would happen! Hes already been in contact with the store and they are pulling in rings from other stores in the US to fit with his budget and the rings i like so its just a case of waiting until we go now.
Have done lots of research of Tiffany rings - and yes before its mentioned i do realise you pay for the name, but were happy with that. I might try them on and decide i dont like any of them anyway (hoping not though!!)
Anyway wondering if any of you MNers have had experience buying from Tiffanys, and which rings you went for?
I Know the only go down to an I clarity, can you see a considerable difference in the colour of the stones?
Did you get insurance in the UK and if so did you need to get a valuation cert done here in GBP, as i know Tiffany issue one but its going to be in USD isnt it?

thanks in advance Smile

Thanks fox , I am going for the better cut to give it a sparkling look to compensate for being a smaller carat so a much smaller stone. I don't know if I'm going to have to go to an I, I just know that's the lowest colour they do which isn't a noticeable yellow to the untrained eye anyway. At the moment the ones the sales lady has found in inventory at our budget are actually quite above that colour grade so that's great!
We both know about the mark up for the brand but we're happy to pay that for lots of reasons and am just looking forward to the experience :)

hummus thanks for the picture, it's beautiful. Is that the knife edge bands? I've heard alot about it taking some getting used to when you first wear it, but I love the way it looks!

I shall ask DP about knife-edge bands, I've no idea Blush. I know that he went for something-gold rather than gold-gold, for something a bit different. Apparently there are discussion forums full of about-to-propose blokes, and he got sucked in Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/02/2016 21:27

I've got the knife edge. I like it. Should I take a picture? Didn't find it hard to get used to at all.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/02/2016 21:28

Oh and mine's platinum.

Longislandicetee · 28/02/2016 21:38

I have the knife edge band on my engagement ring in platinum. I don't remember having to get used to it at all. I didn't go for the matching knife edge wedding band though, I went for the flat band. I was worried it would like weird but it doesn't.

shoeaddict83 · 28/02/2016 21:53

pratchett if you wouldn't mind a pic that would be fab! I'm glad to hear you all say they are comfy coz reading a few forums some people said they weren't! Hopefully it'll be fine then, I do love the way the knife edge looks. Tbh hadn't even thought of weather a none knife-edge wedding band would go, but good to know it does! I'm not sure if I'll be getting that from tiffanys, just know I want a plain platinum one to match the e-ring

hummus I need to find these forums-reading about blokes trying to figure out the ins and outs of proposals and rings has got to be an entertaining few hours?! Lol! You're dp sounds like he went to lots of effort bless him!

I shall try...

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/02/2016 22:01

I think this might work. Excuse lack of mani!

I've just been given a Tiffany bracelet as a present and it's on it's way back to them as the clasp has broken after less than a week. I'm also gobsmacked how light and flimsy it is for the price (it's a bead bracelet)

I also had a Tiffany necklace which pinged off last year on the floor of Next. I took it to a local jeweller to be repaired and he restrung it and he said Tiffany chains were notorious for being poor quality.

That said, the rings are truly gorgeous - I've never had one of those and I'd love one - congratulations Thanks

Tinymrscollings · 28/02/2016 22:20

My engagement ring is Tiffany, also bought at the Bellagio and not declared on the way home. I didn't choose it but I know that DH and his colleague had champagne when they bought it - I've never met her but I owe her another glass. She advised him on what to buy and it's beautiful. My diamond also came out of the setting, twice. The first time they reset it but the second time it was lost and we took it to Sloane Square the day it happened. I very much wanted to wear in on our wedding day so it had 'been there' with us (heave) and they pulled out all the stops to get it sorted in 3 weeks for us. I ended up with a quite substantially larger diamond for no additional cost (they told us it should have been an extra £900 Shock) so that I could have it in time. They also took the new diamond out of the setting it was in and put it into my original ring so I still had something of the ring we became engaged with (more heaving). We also got some rather glam gift bags with scented candles and perfume in to apologise for what had happened. I thought that was pretty impressive, service wise. We then went off to Hatton Garden and had an identical band without the diamond made to order for a fraction of the cost of a Tiffany wedding ring so no brand loyalty despite the service. I'm not massively fond of Tiffany jewellery by and large, although my ring is just what I would have wanted. The little blue box is in our wedding box so whoever gets it when I'm gone can have the whole lot. 6 years on and the diamond is still in situ. Mine is platinum, a 'Bezet' style.

shoeaddict83 · 29/02/2016 07:38

terry beautiful rings Thankyou for the photos, I do really like the knife edge setting, and the rings look great together!
Wow not good that you lost the diamond twice but sounds like it was good service replacing it, just shame it happened to begin with. I haven't been able to fault their service so far so hope it continues in store! Thanks for all the lovely stories ladies Smile

So ladies, just been sent a list of around 30+ rings available across the USA to fit my budget and design preference, the SA has listed all the stone colour and clarity specs next to each ring so i wanted to garner some opinion!
There are some that are listed as IF (internally flawless) with a colour rating on I (lowest Tiffany go) then others at a VVS1 with colour G, with the IF one coming in cheaper, due to the colour i presume. I have never heard anyone say they can see any sort of warm colour with a Tiffany diamond so guessing even their lowest graded stones still shine pretty bright white,So my question is is it worth getting the one better clarity or colour? And with the fact the stones i am looking at are around .37c are you going to see much difference with the colour anyway at the rating that Tiffanys give? Just not sure weather to focus on getting slightly smaller carat stone at better clarity or go for a larger one thats a lower colour grade?

Haven't read the whole thread. I have a Tiffany ring. They have an app as well if you are on iphone
Worth looking at its brill

shoeaddict83 · 08/03/2016 09:33

mum yes i have the app and used that to choose the 4 styles i liked, have then been in touch with the store in Vegas and they have sent a very long list of the available stones, just wondering weather its better to go lower on clarity or colour to get the best for the budget we have thats all. The website obviously shows the best diamonds available, but on the smaller stones i have no idea how much of a difference a drop from say E to I colour makes?

OP posts:
Mumof2twoboys · 08/03/2016 11:33

Tbf I got confused by it all myself. If you google the 4c's it explains the clarity and colour differences but it's not the easiest thing to follow and when I got mine, they brought out a choice which oh had pre selected, but the lights in there are so bright they all looked sparkly and I couldn't see much difference Hmmapart from the obvious size differences of the diamonds

So there was a lot of umming and ahhing, was trying not to drink too much champagne but ending up going for the most expensive marquise one, everyone does comment on it even now!
You get the graded certificate after which explains the quality/colour for insurance purposes but tbf it's beyond me and I don't think any minor inclusions are visible to the naked eye so go for whichever one you love the most.

Congrats though GrinGrinGrin

Finallyonboard · 08/03/2016 11:45

I still love mine. Excellent service and beautiful ring. They only stock the highest quality diamonds so expect to pay more for a smaller diamond. £5-8,000 doesn't get you much at Tiffany, but that doesn't matter to me. Choosing the ring is one of the most wonderful memories I have with DH, it was magical.

I have the Lucida and may have named my DD a variation of that name to commemorate that wonderful day and the first step towards my marriage to my wonderful DH Grin

shoeaddict83 · 08/03/2016 12:01

thanks both. I did think the budget would need to be higher finally but was surprised how many lovely ones they have at the smaller end. TBH our budget is small - only $3000 ish, although it gets you so much more in the US store than Uk! She has come back with 32 rings in stock up to .45c which is bigger than i expected. I only want something tiny anyway as i have v small fingers and hands and wanted a small, elegant stone as opposed to a bigger 'blingy' one. From what ive read the fact tiffany does not go below a SI clarity means than no stone should have visible inclusions anyway, and she hasnt sent me any on the list below VS1.
I think reading up on them at that size stone you wouldnt see any colour difference even if i went to their lowest I stone, and given nearly all on her list are F-H colours i think im probably best going for the biggest size my budget will allow at the best colour and not be too hung up on the clarity as nothings below VS1 anyway.

I love the Lucida you lucky girl!! Currently my fave is the Emerald cut which she has at an F rated VVS1 ring, and then the Novo Cushion cut F rating IF cut.. Also looking at Grace ring too although the price of that is higher for a smaller carat.

just cant wait to have the experience picking it out with DP, so excited!

My first engagement ring came from Tiffany's NYC. It was such a lovely, memorable experience. The staff were attentive and made us feel very comfortable. My first marriage did not last but the ring remains as gorgeous now as it did 25 years ago.

Congratulations on your engagement, Op. Flowers

Finallyonboard · 08/03/2016 12:22

You can always upgrade the ring at a later point with T & CO. They will allow you one upgrade you just pay the difference. My DH has been keen to do this, but honestly, the original means so much to me, I don't want to part with it.

shoeaddict83 · 08/03/2016 12:56

secret the SA so far as been amazing and answered even my stupid questions always within 24hours, so i can vouch for brilliant customer service so far!Sorry to hear your marriage did not last but at least you have a beautiful ring you still enjoy even now!
Yes id seen the upgrade option, but it has to be 2x the value of the ring at least and i dont think id ever want to wear a ring of that value on a daily basis! Like you finally i want to pick this together and it be my 'forever' ring that we got engaged with so as nice as the upgrade option is, i dont think its something id personally use.

Hi again! For all you mners that took the time to reply I just thought I'd let you know I picked out my ring last week when we arrived in Vegas, went for the simple emerald cut diamond on knife edge. Was fantastic experience!
He kept it in the room safe and yesterday on our last day here he proposed whilst we had lunch on s patio at the bellagio overlooking the fountains!! The waiters were in on it and had his phone to take photos whilst he proposed as the fountains were playing, was so romantic! So am a very happy girl today!!
