Bra fitting recommendations for small breasts

Hi,

I know bravissimo is often recommended on here for larger cup sizes but what about smaller?

I am an m and s 40A. The only bras I currently wear are L/Xl nursing bras (don't really need nursing bras anymore). I need some nice underwired bras for work.

Thanks for any advice!

I really don't know what it takes for M&S to stop this. Numerous people have compained and said that their entire fitting advice is simply wrong, and they always reply with 'we are the experts and this is an isolated incident that you're complaining about'.

It's like going to a shoe shop with your size 5 feet, and them putting you in size 7, while claiming that it's normal that you lose the shoe with every step and you have weird feet anyway that can't have a better fit..

What about writing in to that Ann Robinson complaints show? That often does the trick when it comes to big, head in the sand, companies.

So...Debenhams! I didn't have a lot of time as Dd was in the creche, so I skipped getting a fitting and decided to look at some myself with the help of the better bra guidance. I looked at t shirt bras.

34: as the guidance suggested, I could fit a couple of fingers in the band, no more. The 34s I tried did feel tight compared to what I'm used to (obviously!) - I wondered if they might rub after a while?

36: I could fit four fingers in the band but these did feel more comfortable. The bit between the breasts stayed flat like it's supposed to.

Cups: I tried D, Dd and E cups (ran out of time before I could try an F cup). There was a little bit of space at the top of the cups. The problem I found with all the bras I tried was that there was quite a lot of underarm fat poking out. It did seem to get a bit less as the cup size increased but was still noticeable. I wonder if an F cup would have helped?

All in all, the best bra I tried was a 36E. I pulled my top over it and my silhouette looked really good - like I have a shape!!

I think I will try and book a Bravissimo fitting next Tues (thrilled I can go to Bravissimo!) and try and eliminate the underarm fat problem. But feeling much more positive after today. Thanks for all your help and advice. I will keep this thread updated with how I get on next week - perfect bra, here I come!!

I find balconette bras better for under arm fat as the sides are wider and don't cut in.

Lweji · 24/02/2016 16:31

I agree with balconettes if you notice gaps on top of normal shape cups.

They work well for me and I have tear drop shaped breasts (heavier and fuller at the bottom). Not droopy, by the way, as they have always been like this, even when I was young.

KatharinaRosalie · 24/02/2016 16:46

you need to do some scooping. Underarm fat is just breast tissue, that has migrated out of your A-cups. Pull it back where it belongs.

I'm another M&S ex-36A (actually 32C).
Half my bloody life wearing the totally wrong size.

Lweji · 24/02/2016 17:11

I tend to lean forward and let the breasts fall into place into the cups, if you're not sure about scooping.
Definitely try the F or higher until you reach a size that it's clearly too big. Don't be afraid of trying them. :)

emwithme · 24/02/2016 17:46

M&S measured me as a 46A.

I had been taught (by my aunty who was a corsetiere in the 50s) how a bra should fit. I left M&S with perfectly fitting 38Fs, and boobs where they should be.

Lweji · 24/02/2016 18:31

I was once measured at a Triumph shop as an A. Not even given a band. Over my clothes (!).
I mostly fit a 30E.
And I had to laugh on her face.

MsBojangles · 24/02/2016 19:56

Maybe she was just mightily impressed with your bosoms and graded them an 'A'? Grin

After 30 mins with a very helpful Bravissimo fitter, I came away with a lovely 36D black bra! Very happy, and will be recommending Bravissimo to others :-) Thanks all, this sort of thing is why I love mumsnet!
