Ok so I have a list of foundations from which I want to buy one product to use in the daytime ranging from high end and high street.

Top of my high end list is Chanel, mid range Mac and top of my high street list is bourjois, no 7 ; possibly loreal? Or maybelline? These are just options to start testing with.

I would like something with medium to highish coverage that doesn't sit in any dry patches, dry my skin out or cause breakouts. Not so bothered about perfect colour match, or all day staying power ( as I think this will cause breakouts by being too sticky)

I just need a guide really of tried and tested foundations you love.

I am currently using clarins, bourjois CC, Lancôme Teint miracle all of which are running out and are either to thick, to claggy too drying or just don't cover enough. Although I'm happy for now with clarins for nights out.

All advice gratefully received.

mission if you can use Boots No 7 in warm ivory then you are not that pale! I can't even wear their Calico- it's a grey-ish pink on me.

Missionitreat · 21/02/2016 17:35

I do really like the consistency of this No 7 stay perfect so it feels like I'm applying a moisturiser as opposed to a foundation so it's great for everyday use ie I think it prefer it for me anyway to a CC cream. It does last ok and coverage is ok because I don't want high thick cover everyday which is why I was looking for something like this.

I wore it out last night and it looked great in photos and lasted so that was a bonus.
I'm going to look at bourjois city radiance next and loreal true match. Although now I really want nars sheer glow or Mac Pro long wear because I think they will really make my complexion pop when required or am having a meh day.

I just want something simple and cost effective that I can slap on for times I don't need it all day long but want to wear foundation to pop to the shops or pick up the kids on my days off work and don't feel bad taking off as soon as I'm back home again.
I have the collection concealer and its really good but I can't wear it too much as my cheeks get really sensitive to it as its a thick consistency being a concealer.
I have temperamental red cheeks so anything too heavy makes them worse so I need something light but with adequate cover.

I'm not pale but the warm ivory looks a touch greyer than foundations I'm used to. However with a swipe of glow, blush and bronzer it's more than fine as I'd wear those anyway.

I use Superdrug's own brand - mainly as it's not tested on animals Smile I have no complaints about it!

mrsmortis · 21/02/2016 17:57

I love Chanel vitalumiere aqua. I love the finish. It's not full cover but it does build.

Currently I'm using Hourglass Illusion. But again the cover is light/medium rather than full.

I do use a primer but that's more to hide my pores than anything else. I use Benefit porefessional. It probably does have the advantage of extending the wear of my foundation though.

However, on a concealer front I love sensual skin enhancer by Kevin Aucoin. It's not cheap but it's full full cover and the tiniest dot goes a very long way. I suspect it's something that will last forever.

evelynj · 21/02/2016 18:08

Bourjois City radiance is quite like les beiges but both unsuitable for dry skin imo.

I'm using bb creams or mineral powder set with a spritz but may try no 7 tinted moisturise or kind to skin foundation soon. Tried nars sheer glow on sat & sadly wasn't bowled over even though I thought I would be.

I like eve lom tinted moisturiser but want to stick to high St as dont think there's much difference in it as long as it's fairly good to skin

PollyPerky · 21/02/2016 18:12

Sorry OP there is another thread close to yours about pale foundations- I got mixed up when posting. sorry.

RayFuckingPurchase · 21/02/2016 19:36

I quite like Bourjois Healthy Mix but prefer Laura Mercier Silk Creme (ask for a sample as it's not cheap). I put them both on with a sponge on top of a Paula's Choice SPF30, which is a great primer and I wish I'd found it years ago.

A nice BB I've recently tried is by LRP - BB Blur. It's quite a full coverage and best for oily skins, I think. Would probably give you trouble on the dry patches.

Eyes are my issue, too. No concealer seems to go on without sitting in all the lines and making me look about 87.

Destinysdaughter · 21/02/2016 19:47

I actually mix Vichy Dermablend with Chanel aqua and Bourgois Healthy Mix! None of them are quite right on their own, Dermablend is too heavy and orange, Chanel too pale and Bourgois too thin.

I also have red cheeks and use the Vichy Dermablend concealer on my cheeks first. I also use Boots green concealer, but only a little bit otherwise you'll look like the witch from the Wizard of Oz!

Missionitreat · 21/02/2016 21:59

I might just do that and mix a few up, good idea destiny

I love face atelier ultra foundation.

Started using it last summer after reading this thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2390308-Ive-found-the-holy-grail-of-foundatio

Have used most of the foundations mentioned in this thread but this is the best!

Missionitreat · 21/02/2016 22:17

The face atelier sounds brilliant for occasional wear for sure, nights out etc, days my face is being a sod. But not for simple everyday wear when I just want to cover up but not too bothered how amazing I look iyswim.

Destinysdaughter · 21/02/2016 22:20

A BB cream could be good in that case.

Missionitreat · 21/02/2016 22:25

And something that's as kind to my skin as it can be but doing its job.

OP posts:
Missionitreat · 21/02/2016 22:27

Nope BB creams don't work on me at all and I have really liked my bourgois CC cream but I want something else between my CC and Clarins everlasting.

I'm about to start using liquid gold finally caved in once it arrives so who know what my skin will be doing this time next week.

Your skintone sounds similar to mine.

No 7 Airbrush Away is great - light and dewy and not cakey. I use Cool Vanilla - they skin tested me as a pinker tone but it made me look too pink so this was a better shade for me.

Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer is fantastic and rated really highly on MakeupAlley.

I also use Clinique Beyond Perfection but it's a little heavy for daytime unless I apply it over moisturiser with my fingers.

I bought the Aldi Caviar day cream yesterday and I've been using Liquid Gold which is great, but does give me the odd breakout so don't be alarmed when you start using it if you get the odd spot. You do need to persevere.

Missionitreat · 22/02/2016 01:41

I did consider the no 7 airbrush foundation but I thought it might have a sort of powdery finish to it, no idea what gave me that idea at the time. Maybe I'll go back and change mine for that. I'm feeling this new one does make me look grey, doesnt blend too well, is patchy, and has given me a few spots.

OP posts:
Missionitreat · 22/02/2016 23:58

I tried the No 7 airbrush one and it does come out way too powdery for me. I tested the bourjois city radiance one and I quite like that. No 3 beige was my shade.

I'm not buying any more high street though if go off the no 7 I will get Mac or nars or whatever. Would rather spend my ££ on a good one then 2 not so great. I've decided that for my skin a foundation that does dry quickly is actually better. I thought a more moisturising one like the no 7 stay perfect would be nice but I think it's given me spots, but I have worn it over facial oil so I could be wrong.

I could use it with no moisturiser and convince myself it's SPF with cover, in fact that would work nicely.
My liquid gold arrived today so I'm going to be make up free whilst DS is off school ill and let it work its magic alongside the micro scrub that came with it. Obvs alternating it nightly with an evening of rest on day 3.
Although if I have a red shiny face then that's not happening.

Bourjois city radiance? It's a newish one but I'm liking it so far. Or body shop all in one bb cream for less coverage.

UndramaticPause · 23/02/2016 11:09

I'm a mac convert having been a maybelline or bare minerals wearer for years

UndramaticPause · 23/02/2016 11:33

As notamummy says I find Studio fix fluid is brilliant with primer under and I use a cheap powder on top to fix it. I've got combination skin and rosacea, not that you can tell when I have my face on!

Chipstick10 · 23/02/2016 14:21

Charlotte tilbury magic foundation. Nothing to touch it. The first foundation I have ever repurchased.

Missionitreat · 23/02/2016 18:05

Nothing beats the sheen and texture of a decent foundation that doesn't break out your skin.

Ok I'm on a mission although I'm thinking I may as well stick to my Clarins everlasting as it ticks all of the above, but I do want another foundation to alternate with.
Re the no 7 airbrush foundation it comes highly recommended by those in their 20's with generally smoother skin regardless of spots which it covers well apparently.
Mac is mid range price wise so I'll start there. I generally avoid the shop as its always packed and I like to pfaff around trying things out, but I will make a concerted effort and look for a patient and kind assistant.

If you book a trial with Mac you will beat the crowds
