Do feet have be literally jammed into stilleto type shoes with fat bulging out and blisters galore just to get them to stay on when walking?

Or is there a trick? I've got some high-heeled shoes that are really tight, and yet they just won't stay on my feet when I walk in them. They just keep slipping off at the back. I can't possibly squash my feet into shoes any smaller than these. How do people usually manage to walk in these type of shoes? Or is it really just a case of managing through the blisters and pain?

No idea, get yourself some comfy socks and some trainers instead, leave the bunions and sores for someone else!

Fimbo · 29/12/2006 16:13

LOL - I suffered enough of heels in my teens and twenties. Now I am in my thirties I have given up and alternate between flip flops/sandals in summer and boots in winter.

Sorry to be completely unhelpful

schnapps · 29/12/2006 16:16

I get what you mean. I would love to just slip on a pair of flip-flops, but I have a very posh do coming up and I neeeeed to wear posh, heeled shoes.

Get a different style, those ones are obv the wrong shape for your feet.

Fimbo · 29/12/2006 16:20

It's maybe me but I think a lot of stiletto type shoes at the moment seem to be a tad narrow. Perhaps you should look at places that sells wider fitting options, like New Look etc.

MrsBadger · 29/12/2006 16:21

M&S also good for wider feet

DizzyBinterWonderland · 29/12/2006 16:23

what about a high heel but with a strap at the ankle?

charliecat · 29/12/2006 16:28

these are my flip flops and they do the clip clop clip clop sound of heels...so under a long dress you would never know they werent

schnapps · 29/12/2006 16:35

Thanks for all your suggestions. I like the idea of heels with an ankle strap, but didn't really see any lest time I went shopping. Will go in to town over the weekend and see what I can find. In the meantime, please keep your ideas coming

do you need spangly or just smart?

I wore ones similar to these for a wedding in the summer and they were comfy for the whole day, including chasing errant bridesmaids and dancing till 1am.
Also have some similar to these - agree a strap is a v good idea if you have trouble keeping them on.

Just keep trying on different ones and remember if they're not comfy in the shop they'll only be worse at 2am...

DizzyBinterWonderland · 29/12/2006 17:50

debenhams have loads

Skribble · 29/12/2006 17:55

I just can't do shoes like those at all, I have resigned myself to the fact I have feet shaped feet and not shoe shaped feet. I hate seeing little toes poking out the side and toes overhanging the front as feet slip forward. I have a pair of small heels that have a squarer front that are very comfy albeit a bit naf and dowdy, I bought a pair of more rounded toe ones but can't wear them for long my foot slips forward and crushes my toes and they slip off the back, tried filling toes with cotton wool but doesn't help.

I have rather nice looking feet and would love to wear a pair of strappy sparkly things but just doesn't seem to work for me, somebody said the secret is to pay a bit more and get a decent make.

schnapps · 29/12/2006 19:39

I hadn't really thought about wearing strappy sandal type shoes. They would certainly be easier to wear because of the ankle strap. At least they'd stay on! Are sandals cool to wear at this time of year though? Yes, I definitely do need to look cool, hip, trendy, sophisticated etc. I might not BE those things, I just NEED to LOOK them, just for 1 night

Also, is it a fashion faux pas to wear ankle straps on short legs? I seem to hear/read that loads in fasion magazines and programmes. I'm wearing a knee length skirt, btw.

Hmmm, shoe glue would be a good idea. wash of type stuff, of course, but I would definitely buy some for this occasion, if only it existed

As you can see, I am taking this very seriously. Don't laugh!!

Do you have an old-fashioned cobblers near you? I think they sell things that stop the shoe from slipping off your heel.

Tigglystinselnorks · 29/12/2006 20:05

I find the party feet heel gel pads are excellent when i'm wearing heels! You can buy them in supermarkets or Boots do them! OR HERE
this is what they look like
They are see through so no worries about them beeing seen, or if wearing strappy shoes they do protective strap pads too! I live for party feet these days as i' a heel wearing trainee!

schnapps · 30/12/2006 15:08

I found the perfect shoes in town today! They are just what I wanted, they just have a lower heel (3" so not too low). They are slightly wider and it makes sooo much difference, so the people who suggested a wider fitting/different shape were spot on. I also got some party feet gel heel grip things and they're great, so thanks for that suggestion too.

Thank you to everyone for your help, I will know where to come next time I need some fashion advice
