Aveda Hair Salons

Does a salon carrying the Aveda sign automatically mean good stylists and a good cut? After many with my hairdresser and a house move, I'm looking for someone closer to home. Have tried a couple locally based on recommendations but they didn't 'wow' me. Happened to drive past an Aveda salon today and am wondering whether it's worth the risk. Good reviews on Facebook, looks nice ....

What's anyone's experience please. Thanks.

In a word, No.

I don't know the ins and outs of Aveda- someone will - but I assume they are a type of franchise like the Body Shop- they supply the products for your investment initially and the name implies some kind of kudos.

It all depends on the hairdressers , not the name on the door.

I've used 3 different Aveda salons in different cities. 2 are excellent, the other one was very good for cutting and styling but my regular colourist wasn't too impressed with their colour work.
I do find the Aveda name reassuring, I feel like it's unlikely to get a trashy style in their hands.

I go to an Aveda salon regularly , and am really impressed by the skills and professionalism of the staff (for many years I went to John Frieda in Mayfair ). The woman who does my highlights is the best I have ever used .

I think it just means they use and sell Aveda products. I remember seeing it on 'Mary queen of shops'.

Thank you .... I thought that might be the case. Looking at their website and FB page, they seem to have regular training from Aveda but am not sure whether that's just colour or extends to a cut too. Might give them a go but will dwell on it further!

Don't think there's much in the way of quality control. However, I do think that the business will understand the brand that they are buying into, and will attempt to appeal to Aveda customers.

Good point Cones and I wonder if Aveda would ditch salons not meeting their minimum standards. I got a relatively good cut in the last place I tried but I have never been so cold in my life and it didn't feel overly hygienic.

I go to an Aveda salon and the juniors go to something like Aveda Style Academy (can't remember the exact name) as part of their training - I assume this goes up the ranks, I just remember the lad washing my hair telling me about his training. My place has a whole Aveda spa attached, so perhaps that makes a difference.

Coming back to update .... I tried it and got a fabulous cut! Maybe it was the luck of the draw rather than the branding but, regardless, am really pleased and will definitely go back. 😀
