I can't seem to wear mascara

For whenever I do, I get smudging and flaking over my under-eyes that makes me look like I've been out all night.

It also feels uncomfortable after a couple of hours.

I used to wear it daily but when I had my children and left my job in my late 20's I gave it up, to give my lashes a break. I'm now in my mid 30's and sometimes think I need some 'oomph'. Unfortunately my budget is very low, so, looking at recommendations I've just purchased a £10 Borjuois one. Not cheapy-cheap, not expensive either, I know.

Is that the problem? Or the fact I use heavy moisturiser due to my very dry skin? I only use a bit of foundation now and again during the colder months too so I don't go down the powder route - my dry skin look awful with powder anyway and it instantly ages me.

I've got an event soon where I'm bound to get very hot, sweaty and tired as it's evening, I want to wear more eye make-up but am afraid of looking horrendous.

What's the secret?

Clinique's tubing mascara has changed my life!!! It was recommended to me here.

Has anyone with really sensitive eyes tried and been OK with the Boots tubing mascara?

DD comes out in red angry rash around the eyes after using the usual teen type mascaras (maybelline, bourjois etc) but has been fine with Blinc. It is rather ££ for a teen though so if there's a cheaper option that would suit her, I'd love to know about it!

You need waterproof mascara first off. Then, if you're using moisturiser followed by primer & foundation (or even without primer & foundation) dab your eye area with some soft tissue to 'dry' it and apply powder before you apply mascara.

This ended all my mascara woes.

Personally I find Hypnose and Dior way better than Clinique.
