Bring back what we want from the M & S Archive!

Alexa Chung is not my cup of tea and I am not sure how successful her picks from their fashion archives will be for us mere mortals with lumps and bumps, other than to get them coverage in the fashion press. However, I was thinking why don't they ask us, the general public, what we would like to have available on the shop floor. Airfix, a bit different I know, but popped up on a retro hobby discussion elsewhere, has asked model makers to vote on which kit they would like revived and, when they have sufficient pre-orders, then produce the item, which is already pre-sold, so a win-win.

So, would it not be in M&S's interest to ask us what we would like to see again. Me, flat fronted trousers from an Italian ladies range, about 18-20 years ago, wonderfully flattering, stylish straights, with a wool mix slight stretch fabric. They came in black and navy, front slip pockets, so no gapping at sides, washed brilliantly and would fit in my wardrobe now.

What would you like them to re-issue?

Decent tights, they were capable of producing them about four years ago. I still have some that wash wonderfully. I recently bought some thinking they were the same style and I had to throw them away after two wears.

And they used to
Do really good quality thick white t shirts that lasted for ever.

In about 2000, they did a fabulous workwear line which had long jackets, short jackets, long/short skirts, trousers, and dresses all in the same fabric so you could mix and match. Fabulous, and I wore them till they fell apart.

In the 90's there was a phase when there was a range of mix and match really good quality jersey basics. I had leggings, tunic dress, cardigans, skirts and vests from that range and they were great - easy to wear, long lasting

The oversized (well, men's) charcoal grey lambswool cardigans that all the cool girls wore at school circa 1989.

Just for nostalgia

A version of Florentyna they did in the 90s. Came in red, yellow and white packaging.

I still like their tights, especially the opaques, but only the more expensive ones, rather than the multi-packs.

Decent quality suits and trousers - 20 years ago. I rarely wear suits now, but I'm looking for a pair of good quality black trousers for work. I went to m & s last week, and the quality was appalling.

I second the Limited Collection leggings I still have several pairs from aroubd 2007 , also the Indigo range when it first came out ( its starting to look like Per Una now and the fabrics are rubbish).

also The Minimiser Bras, with the guipure lace .. they were just the best ..

Noel, I'm actually wearing that cardigan! It belonged to my FIL, it's got lots of holes, but it's 25+ years old and still warm and cosy (and it's as close as I get to getting a hug from him).

Yy to Forest Fern!

I want them to re-issue the beautiful black satin floral print dress I bought in the mid 90s. It cost £40 which was a fortune for me then, but I saved up for it. It was bias cut and I wore it until it fell apart, which took a good few years. Because the cut was so forgiving I wore it all through my pregnancy, too. It was a bit oriental looking which was quite the thing in the mid 90s - I used to wear it with a little cape thing in the evening or a cropped fluffy card I during the day. Sigh. I miss that dress.

A pair of Autograph Weekend navy linen, wide legged trousers from about ten years ago. I lived in them for about four summers until they fell apart. I absolutely loved them. So many people asked me where I got them from.

I've only been able to find cheap looking, shapeless linen trousers in m & s since then. Autograph Weekend was brilliant.

Yes, the Indigo collection when it very first came out and before it turned into Per Una lite.

However, I admit that when I think I miss clothes I had in my 20s, I might also be missing the 24 inch waist I had back then...

Autograph when it had named designers. I also bought some Fyre style boots in 2004

Another one here who had mix and match workwear suiting. I really rated it. I work my navy interview suit to my friend's wedding and got some very complimentary remarks. This was 1997.

Autograph wool tights in charcoal and navy.
Autograph cashmere jumpers, low scoop neck, slight balloon sleeves, perfect length for wearing with a skirt.

Oh, oh, and the lovely grey jersey shirts they did in the late 90s. Everyone in my office had them, and they looked gorgeous. I still wear mine sometimes

all my favourite M&S clothes (God, I nearly typed 'pieces' there; it's the ridiculous Alexa Chung effect) are still in wearable condition 20 years later. I can't think of anything I've bought in the last 5 years that's still in rotation, or hasn't been relegated to emergency/decorating clothes.

Am very disappointed that M&S think Alexa Chung is of any relevance to their average customer. They really need to listen to their real customers as opposed to the ones they think they would like to have.....

A pair of M&S jeans I bought in a chazza shop. Mid rise, flared, 70s vibe. Loved them.

Who exactly do they think Alexa appeals to? I'm not sure even trendy twenty somethings consider her a fashion icon.
