Oops, my clothes are mostly black or grey - Anyone else?

I've done a fair bit of clothes shopping in Mint Velvet over the last few years. My husband commented to me that my wardrobe isn't very colourful anymore (in his defence I went through a long Boden phase so everything was very bright and colourful for a good few years). I pointed out that I wear coloured coats and scarves to which he replied "Yes, but that's outside!"

He's right! Oh dear, I am aware my choices have been becoming more muted over time (I thought classic and sophisticated) but I'm worried I've reverted back to my teenage emo / indie self (maybe she never went away)!

What colours dominate your wardrobe? Do you think it's possible to have too much black or grey (Remus back me up on this one Grin) in your early forties? Are coloured accessories not fooling anyone? Does it affect your mood? I think I partly want to fade into the background and not draw any attention to myself.

I interested to find out if anyone is in the same boat and how they feel about it!

Me too. Black, grey and denim with little splashes of white and burgandy. I'm trying to go crazy and introduce navy!

I think I look great in black and that's what I mostly wear, with some grey, white and navy (not all together), the occasional splash of colour. That's my comfortable, natural palette - I only wear colour if I'm feeling particularly chirpy, which I'm mostly not... It's my mood that affects my wardrobe colour rather than the other way round, I find my palette calming.

I tend to mix textures to liven things up, fluffy jumpers or cutout fabrics etc.

Sometimes I go for red lipstick if I feel like I want a bit of colour.

Why does this always end up being presented as a choice between Yoko Ono and children's entertainer? There are many, many alternatives. Look at nature.

No disrespect to Yoko Ono by the way. I admire her style - it's just not right for me.

I do wear mainly neutrals, but not always black and grey. Cream and tan/camel really suit me, but my best colour is orange! Whenever I wear orange, I get compliments and told I look really well Grin

But I suspect people find me boring and predictable anyway, as my general rule is one bright colour (not always orange, I also really suit ink/iris and coral) and everything else neutral.

This is quite similar to my style: tinypic.com/?ref=kdu3c2

Sara Cox was on Saturday Kitchen this morning wearing a lovely green shirt. It wouldn't suit me but looked great with her colouring.

I realised I was looking too dull last year at the end of summer; thought it was going to be a cold one and I threw on grey jeans black tee and grey cardigan. The sun came out and I bumped into a friend looking chic in white jeans and blue shirt. I felt so dingy, it doesn't help that I am really pale.

I have gone in the opposite direction to you and have bought more boden this year although I avoid the prints.
