Is it possible to look reasonably good in waterproof clothing?

We are going up north to aviemore. I have nothing other than correct boots so need to get a jacket and probably some waterproof trousers. Is it ever possible to look ok?

If you need to wear waterproof trousers, then no.

I didn't think so. The waterproof trousers will be for when we are sledging only so hopeful to get a really good and warm jacket to wear too.

When you are in Aviemore, the important thing is to be warm and dry. People will only be looking at you if you aren't wearing warm and waterproof clothing. It's about what keeps you cosy, not what you look like.

CMOT has it. Waterproof trousers are not fashionable. Gaiters are no better.
You can get decent coats and tops these days. I wouldn't say walking trousers are the height of fashion, but you can get inoffensive ones.
But frankly, I'd go for warmth and comfort over style any day if your out and about in places like that. Cold, wet miserable, but fashionable, isn't on my radar.

Looking warm, dry and coordinated is looking great in waterproof clothing, Ideally not lurid primaries but visibility does matter in extreme environments! Budget? TK Maxx is often good for bargains, otherwise Go Outdoors, Cotswold or a specialist walking shop. There is lots of choice out there. Patagonia and Arcteryx at the expensive end... merino undies are good too if you suffer from the cold.

Lost a post but it pretty much has been said...you'll look more out of place if you try and look fashionable. Dress for the occasion and you will look great.

I remember a well know urban, car-driving trend loving blogger trying her best not to succumb to a waterproof coat and boots when her sons started rugby...I can only imagine how idiotic she must have looked on the touchline mud in her thin Zara parka and designer heeled boots...anyway I digress, and as far as I can see she has now seen the sponsored light on the practical clothing...

Get waterproof trousers with ankle zips, then you won't need to wear them from the outset, just carry them and slip them on over your boots just for the sledging.

I have black ski trousers for anything that will involve getting cold and wet. I tried waterproof over-trousers but they were horribly rustly so I bought some fleece lined salopette things from Ebay instead.

Top half is layered up in long sleeve, t-shirt, fleece hoody jacket and waterproof coat. Topped with a buff fleecy scarf and a bobblehat hat. And gloves.

Ok, I'd look a bit of a twat in the high street but everyone I see out in the wilds here with dogs / kids is dressed similarly.

Just think warm and dry and wear whatever you have to fulfil that.

If you mean waterproof over trousers then I agree you can't look great in them. I would invest in proper ski wear.

yes. People having fun look great. People having fun in the snow while being warm and dry smile and look great.

fashion victims look like models; that is miserable, uncomfortable, fed up.

If you're going next weekend you will be in a sea of sled dog enthusiasts who will all look like grim death on account of sleeping in the back of unheated vans with a pile of damp Siberian huskies, nobody will notice what you look like!

Be Claudia Schiffer. I bet she looks good in waterproofs or ski wear.

Otherwise, just try not to care.
