The orange shampoo sounds like Selsen and you can still get it. My mum uses it.

Soooosie · 14/01/2016 21:40

Are you on the pill?

mineofuselessinformation · 14/01/2016 21:59

Try the Lush Seanik bar. I have seborrheic dermatitis and it really helps. (Plus you don't need to use conditioner as it makes your hair so soft - not fluffy!)
But also see your doctor and get some nizoral and betnovate scalp applications for flare-ups - the betnovate in particular really soothes my scalp and helps to get rid of flakes and the crusty bits. (How glamorous! Smile)

DD1 had something like this a while ago and was eventually diagnosed with tinea capitis, which is ringworm of the scalp. It was horrid for her - not only did she have an incredibly itchy scalp which was sore and weeping, her hair was also falling out in clumps. A course of strong medication sorted out the infection, whilst daily oiling with baby oil (the doctor said nothing food based like coconut oil as it would feed the infection) and washing with capsal and ketokonazole (sp?) shampoos alternately sorted the problem out eventually. Her hair is still not back to its former state - she had beautiful, waist-length thick hair, and it's now really quite thin. But her scalp is no longer flakey and her hair, despite being thinner, looks very healthy.

hugoagogo · 14/01/2016 22:10

Hmm my nails are a state, maybe I will look at nail and skin type vitamins...

Achooblessyou · 14/01/2016 22:11

Have you tried neutrogena Tgel? Works for me

watchingthebox · 15/01/2016 11:56

extra virgin pure coconut oil as an overnight leave in treatment

add a few drops of tea tree oil as well

shampoo out in the morning, do it 2 - 3 times a week

Uphillanddowndale12 · 15/01/2016 17:15

I have something similar and its made worse by eating anything that is yeast based or that encourages yeast growth. I use shampoo and conditioner from either of these two places: elenas nature collection she does lotions and potions for eczema sufferers but it's good for any skin problems and you can ring up and explain your hair and skin problem and get advice from them. The other place is www.purenuffstuff they make shampoo and conditioner for psoriasis and eczema and dry itchy scalp. Hope this helps. I hardly get it now, thanks to using their products.

BabyGanoush · 15/01/2016 17:46

Flakes usually mean dandruff

Dandruff caused by yeast/fungus

Nizoral gets on top of it

My DH lived with itchy flaky scalp for 20 years, until I researched it all

He cannot believe there was zn easy solution all along (all cleared now, and it was baaaaad)

Imscarlet · 15/01/2016 17:54

Third MooGoo

I have been a Head and Shoulders user for years. If I ever veered off course and used something else, within a week I had cornflakes coming off my scalp. I recently had a 12 week blowdry (rubbish) and was trying to source a shampoo other than the extortionate shampoos they sold with it. I tried MooGoo and it is bloody amazing. No flakes and I swear my hair feels less straw like.

I've tríd Nizoral to no effect and other antidandruff shampoos bring me back to cornflake land.

stargirl1701 · 15/01/2016 17:57

Stop using anything except water. I made the switch last year. My hair is much better condition.

Happy50 · 15/01/2016 22:09

Coconut oil and a few drops of tea tree cleared my own and my Ds. My son went dairy free. We have a family history of this and eczema
Wash it off with a gentle shampoo with non of the usual suspects in it on before adding water.
Bentovate is a steroid which can have side effects.
I won't put it anywhere on my body - certainly not my head or scalp
My father was under one the London hospital's for eczema and they took him straight off it.

superbfairywren · 16/01/2016 07:27

Have you tried the body shop ginger shampoo? I have an awful scalf, itchy and dry, occasionally so bad it just feels like my skin is falling off. I lose lots of hair too, malt like a long haired cat! I have tried nearly everything and the body shop ginger shampoo works for me. I used it every wash for a week or two and now can use it every other and use any other shampoo I like in between. My hair has been great since and scalp flake free and not itchy. Have run out at the moment and need to get to body shop asap!

Bouncey · 16/01/2016 08:03

Philip Kingsley does an itchy scalp shampoo which is very good.

happylass · 16/01/2016 08:12

Another vote for the Lush Soak n Float Shampoo Bar. I'd suffered with eczema on my scalp all my life and it's the only thing that succeeded in clearing it up. I recently bought the Body Shop Ginger Shampoo as I couldn't get to a Lush store and my scalp seems fine with that too. Hope you get it sorted soon. I suffered for years - I feel your pain.

Orangeanddemons · 16/01/2016 08:30

The problem with Nizarol, Tgel, etc is they knacker your hair. They make it really dry. I found the Body Shop ginger shampoo didn't clean my hair properly, it seemed to need washing about 3 hours after using it.

Also, when you use the medicated shampoos how are you supposed to use conditioner? Doesn't washing the conditioner off wash the medication off too?

Indecisivejo · 16/01/2016 10:46

Ok so have ordered some moogoo so will update once used few times. Wish me luck! Thanks for all the replies.

I have seborrheic dermatitis and get Dermax treatment shampoo from the GP. It's not like that hideous tar stuff! I also use Dr Organics tea tree or aloe vera shampoos.

3littlefrogs · 16/01/2016 10:58

The best soothing antidandruff shampoo I have tried is the Lidl own brand one. DD likes it too. Between us we must have tried hundreds of different sorts.

velourvoyageur · 16/01/2016 12:11

Yeah, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that Nizoral was only for greasy type dermatitis? I went through a small bottle before Christmas and now I have a v. dry scalp, so yes I spose it's got the seb derm under control, but it's also easily irritatated & dry, now using E45 shampoo to tackle that and won't touch Nizoral for a while.
I've got through maybe two bottles of Nizoral a year since I was 17 or so. Good stuff but not for everything.

3littlefrogs · 16/01/2016 12:21

Nizoral is powerful antifungal stuff. I don't think i would want to use it all the time.
