Why does my foundation always look shit!?

I see these celebrities with beautiful glowing skin, I know they have make up artists but can this be achieved at home?

Since having my twins my skin has gone to shit, I'm paler than I used to be, blotchy and flakey. I've tried my usual rimmel, boots matching service and benefit hello flawless which used to look fab it now looks orange and clings to my dry patches.

I have a full set of real techniques brushes and a beauty blender that I have not a clue how to use.

Please help.

Glycolic twice a week
Mac prep and prime radiance or charlotte tilbury wonder cream
under givenchy teint balm

Start taking vitamin D too although obviously check safety of your breast feeding. I don't know anything about that. Also a zinc supplement is brilliant for skin.

I think your skin sounds dehydrated rather than dry and it could he that's it's getting oilier to compensate and causing your foundation to turn more orange. Look for serums for dehydrated skin rather than dry. Anything with hyluronic acid in it would be good.

Try using a flannel to take your cleanser off, it acts as a gentle extra exfoliator each time you wash your face.

Eight hour is mainly petroleum and lanolin. I've never really understood what makes it different from a tube of lanisoh. Obviously lots of people like it though.

For flaky skin, moisturize every evening with Eucerin 5% urea cream and use Nip and Fab glycolic acid pads a couple of times per week. Sorted!

I do a longer Asian routine too sometimes but those bare-bones basics work for me. You might also consider switching to a lighter foundation. My skin changed in my thirties too, my old full-coverage foundation started looking totally off and I needed a paler shade. Lily Lolo mineral foundation (the cheap sample pots are great) and BB creams (Missha, Dr Jart) suit my new skin, I now look glowy, not heavily made up and retro matte. I use the Real Techniques stippling brush to put on my BB cream, lovely finish.

Life with your new babies sounds pretty full-on, it will get easier, but don't feel too bad - at that stage I barely had enough time to brush my teeth.

8-hour cream is amazing for the dry and sore skin patches I get on my hands and legs. I don't know how it works so well but something in it must give it that smell – the petroleum and lanolin are the base. If you want something similar but without the smell/extras ingredients, Lansinoh might be good.

I've tried Lansinoh as a lip balm and it wasn't good. It went a bit white. 8 Hour Cream is much better. But on dry patches on the skin, well, they're probably just as good but I'd still go for the 8 Hour as it's a multi tasker.

I have the worst dry skin ever and it patches on my chin and forehead best primer I use is bonjourose and a really heavy moisturiser all over really helps

MrTiddlestheFatCat · 15/01/2016 19:53

Are the dry patches red or sore? It could be acne- even if it doesn't appear typically spotty. A quick trip to the Drs could be beneficial- it might feel like a total waste of their time, but they can often very quickly give you something. For me, my skin cleared up almost instantly with the stuff they gave me, and I had skin very similar sounding to yours.

Unfortunately, foundation will always cling to these dry patches- I had exactly the same problem and it comes back every now and again. I was using the Benefit foundation too actually and it made this problem so much worse. I now use a Maybelline one. For me, the fewer ingredients in the stuff the better. Look for non-comedogenic make up and face wash, as this doesn't clog your pores and is better for your skin. Cetaphil face wash and moistueriser has been excellent for me

Just to answer a pp, the op should be taking vitamin d at this time of year anyway if she's breastfeeding.
