Has anyone had any accidents with their Babyliss Big Hair dryer?

I was using it today and my hair got trapped in it, OMG I thought it was going to rip my hair out! Basically it was curling my hair ( top right hand button) and my hair got caught in it. Really scary and I panicked and eventually managed to switch the thing off but thought it was going to pull my hair out by the roots! Guess you have to be careful using that function but it has scared me a bit. Anyone else had problems or any tips on how to use it safely?

I keep looking sadly at the photos of glossy hair on the box of mine. I just cannot do it! Anyone seen any good you tube videos that demonstrate how to use it?

SpikeWithoutASoul · 15/01/2016 21:41

Oh, and I also burnt a patch of skin next to my eyebrow. Confused

I can't find the video I looked at ages ago when I bought it, but I've just looked on Babyliss's website's own videos. (They will obviously not show any bad points, but they will show how to use it...) The 'everyday blow dry' is exactly how I do my hair. They do let the hair wrap round the brush pretty much to the root. My hair is about the same length or slightly longer than that, and looks quite a bit thicker. The Fearne Cotton video seems to show a method a bit more like what unimaginative and dowager mention - although she does go to the root on the bits where she wants root lift.

Honestly, to anyone struggling with it - I don't know your hair type, but watch a few videos and have another go, it's such a fab gadget. Steer clear of the highest heat setting though, especially if you've burnt yourself!

(I don't work for Babyliss, I just have a fair few of their gadgets Grin !!)

Will give it another go. Might have some burn cream to hand though....

I watched the babyliss videos and they show putting it to the end of the hair, letting it rotate until it grips, let it travel up to the root (winding as it goes) hold it for a couple of seconds and then release. So those of us who were doing that were just following the instructions.

It doesn't show just brushing your hair through with it like a big brush.

Maybe I should give mine another go. Bought it years ago when the my first came out, but it just left my hair limp and full of static. It's shorter now, though, so I suppose might ne more effective.
I do wonder if those who love them are also those who for whatever reason, can't use a hairdryer properly, so anything half-decent is a bonus!

I love my babyliss big hair. It has transformed how my hair looks. At last a way to create a s salon finish at home. However I have discovered (ouch burnt nipple !!!!) The end becomes very hot after use.

WaitrosePigeon · 18/01/2016 18:18

Oh I just love mine!

CointreauVersial · 18/01/2016 21:15

I'm confused by those saying you shouldn't wrap your hair round it - that's how I use it, and I've had mine for years!

I do exactly what redhat and plumpfiction said - catch the ends, and let the rotation roll up the section of hair right up to the roots. Hold for a moment. Then rotate the other way to unwrap. Or use the rotation in the undersections to pull the brush right into the roots to give the hair lift.

I also watched a video.

TrinityForce · 18/01/2016 21:19

Seems there's a few different ways to do it!

I think rolling it all the way up was the way it was originally marketed - roll it up to the top so you have volume and 'big' hair?

Whereas the newer stuff seems to be just the ends of hair to get them rounder/blowdry look.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 18/01/2016 23:39

I bought mine a few years ago so I must have been using the 'old' method. I do rember having a huge shiny crackly head of hair for about 15 mins, before it completely flopped and looked like rats' tails.

Mammabear31 · 19/01/2016 19:57

I use mine to get curls - go from under the layer from the root horizontally, running it down as its rotating then flipping to vertical halfway down, catching the bottom section on the end to twist. Only do twice and leave, then run fingers through after 5-10mins (usually while I do make up) and spray. Ta-dah! Its how I wear my hair most days.
