Tops to wear with jeans (hourglass figure)

Please please please tell me what sort of top I can wear with jeans - something that doesn't hide my waist or make me look gargantuan?

Baggy jumpers look awful (look huge). Tight tops look awful (muffin top).

I have 30HH bust so if I wear anything that isn't fitted I look very very overweight.

Please help!!

Thanks everyone.

I am going to have to go jeans shopping again, aren't I? WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

Per Una sounds like a good shout. And Levis / Gap.

Jeans shopping is the pits. The absolute pits. Last time I went jeans shopping I actually wept in the changing room. Real tears.

StephenKatz - the amount of times I have adjusted my baggy tops as you have done there...its so simple really - take the tops to a tailor! I will see what is already in my wardrobe that could be taken in.

TripTrap - I have the exact same problem with coats. It drives me wild. I am also very busty so anything that isn't fitted makes me look like a sack of potatoes. But I can't find a fitted coat with a hood (a hood is a must for me) so I tend to go for parka coats. Which makes me look like a sack of potatoes! I. GIVE. UP.

Also - are boot kick jeans still fashionably acceptable? Skinny / straight leg look AWFUL on me. Also, is it acceptable to wear heeled boots with jeans? I always think trainers look good with jeans but I am a short arse and the jeans just drag on the floor and get destroyed.

Fitted tops that aren't a tight T shirt are a nightmare to find. The thing is you really need bust darts to get a good fit. It's really only Pepperberry that do these and they only have 1 or 2 things a season that I like.
I find that fine merino or cotton knitwear doesn't cling as much as jersey. Generally I wear either very dark bootcut jeans with a fine knit jumper, or slim jeans with a long slightly fitted thicker jumper (maybe bought a size down).

yeah I find pepperberry are usually a little off key. There is always something about a piece that I don't like. But I will keep looking on there in the hopes I can find something. Perhaps a plain white shirt is the way forward.

Will also look at fine merino / cotton knitwear.

I always find that I look OK when I am standing up - its when I sit down that the problem occurs - my belly just oozes out of the top of my jeans and I have an instant spare tire. Anything to be done about that apart from losing weight?

Definitely try Gap. They have tons of bootleg jeans and some higher-waisted examples. If bootlegs suit you (and they are often the best fit for large-up-top ladies) then wear them! They're supposed to be due a revival, anyway, although most women are still wedded to skinnies IME.

In Gap, I found the gaping thing was sorted by going a waist size smaller than I thought I would be. They are tight when first washed but have loads of stretch so fit really well after a couple of hours with not too much muffin.

I think we have the same figure but I'm wearing a lot of dresses nowadays. I like wrap tops with a good bit of ruching (sp?)

booooooooooom · 07/01/2016 13:42

Thanks music, will try Gap, jeans with a smaller waist.

Diddly - I only wear dresses. No lie. Only dresses. Occasionally a skirt with a tight cowl neck top...but 98% of the time, I am in a dress.

Try Gap high waisted boot cut jeans - sometimes on eBay if not in stock in gap
Also consider getting jeans that fit your hips taken in at the back seam to fit your waist too. My local tailor charges about £12-14 to do this (depends on whether you take him lots of stuff which I am currently doing as sick of the gape) makes such a difference not to have a gaping waistband

Boden fixed wrap tops are good - lots from previous seasons on eBay

My last pair of jeans were Levi Demi Curve, they fit really well (should do at the price!). I think the range has changed now - how about 815 Curvy Bootcut?
