LV knockoff that I'm stuck with - wwyd?

Last Christmas my mother got this bizarre notion that I needed a fake Louis Vuitton handbag and wallet so people wouldn't judge me for having five children. (?????)

I used it a few times but felt ridiculous and gave up pretty quickly. A few months ago, I was having a clear out and she suggested I sell it. She apparently paid nearly £200 for these fake LV items.

I feel like I can't just charity shop it, or throw it out, but nobody wants to spend that much money on a second hand knockoff! I feel saddled with this ridiculous gift - an item I would never have bought with my own money even if I had a spare £700 knocking about, as it isn't my style at all.

Should I just charity shop it, and never speak of it again, or maybe give it to one of my dd's?

Charity shop. Your first para made me lol though...!

JE1234 · 31/12/2015 08:29

I would ordinarily say charity shop although they may not sell it as it's an offence to sell fakes. Do you know anyone else who might want it?

raisin3cookies · 31/12/2015 08:40

Can't even give it away! Yikes.

Give it to a charity shop. I don't see why a donation would cause them a problem, surely they wouldn't think it was real if you were giving it away?

Penfold007 · 31/12/2015 08:44

Give it back to your mother.

BrianButterfield · 31/12/2015 08:52

I think you can ebay it if you make it very clear its a copy - don't mention the label in the listing? Or sell on FB as a copy - people do buy them.

MizK · 31/12/2015 09:02

I agree, would sell it as a fake on ebay just in case a charity shop could get into trouble for selling fakes.

I hate knock offs! The whole point of a designer bag is beautiful quality - I don't mind a lookalike if the style of a designer bag is particularly gorgeous but never a counterfeit...however your mum is generous to spend that much on you even if her reasoning sounds slightly mad!

OldFarticus · 31/12/2015 09:40

Please don't sell it as a fake on eBay. eBay will zap the listing and you will probably be contacted by LV - every fashion house will have people all over eBay looking for fake bags. It's still an offence to sell it even if you are honest and say it is a fake! Counterfeiting is a crime.

Best thing is probably to put it in a bin or give it back to your mum. (I say that as the "proud" recipient of a fake Mulberry which dyed my (real) NYDJ jeans pink when it rained! Xmas Angry ).

She really is generous but impulsive and slightly mental. :)

I might just pop it into a charity shop in town today.

Raisin I have one of those DM's too Wink Your explanation of why she bought it for you did make me laugh.

A charity shop can't sell it either. Think if it as being like stolen goods, which is obviously a gross exaggeration...BUT it's a crime if it is sold by anyone. The charity shop would either believe it is genuine and sell it for an inflated price, potentially leading to pissed off customer and possible criminal investigation. OR you tell them it's fake, in which case they just have to bin it anyway...

Terribly wasteful and unsatisfactory but unfortunately the only harmless way to get rid is to chuck it. Sad

raisin3cookies · 31/12/2015 13:34

Such a shame. I think I'll give it to my 12 yo dd.

Love my mother to bits but... Yeah!

Do give it to your DD, she'll probably love it. I wouldn't have been able to tell a real from a fake LV at 12. Her mates will think you're the best mum in the world.

£200 for a fake bag? O she got conned. They are usually around the £25 - £50 mark.
