Party outfit for six year old girl - HELP PLEASE!

I have searched and searched for a Christmas outfit for my nearly 7yo DD. She is very skinny and we have tried on lot of pretty skirts which all fall down . And pretty tops which look lovely on the hanger but are too low on her scrawny little neck . Have tried Next, Boden and Debenhams - all the seperates are too big and the dresses too dressy IYKWIM.

She has one outfit which is actually a summer dress from primark ( a bargain at ?6) but looks ok as its dark purple. Will do at a push but she would like something new

Any ideas please? In terms of style we want less dressy/more cool than a bridesmaid dress but not like she's going clubbing / on the game

thanks for your advice. i went to zara and got two of these A line pinafore thingies - you knwo the kind you wear short with leggings or skinny jeasn under??? Do they have a name?? I also got a top to wear under and a couple of pairs of funky matching tights ( well actually I got far more than this but these are the only ones that fit and DD likes...)

Dd is very pleased. they are more cute than dressy party stuff but she will get more wear out of them

however have not solved the skirt / trousers dilemma as 6-7 was too short and 7-8 too big on the waist. thanks for school skirt tip mrs Badger

a great find - thnak you ladies

also got her a fleece, sweatshirt and hoody from boden sale so I am favourite mummy today
