If you have to wear an ID badge on a lanyard

... and the lanyard aggravated your eczema around your neck, what do you do?
I found that clip-on ID badges pull little holes into blouses and jackets. Any alternatives?

The safety release thing - do you work in construction? Or just in an office?

If you work somewhere where you would be "allowed" to wear a scarf or a dangly necklace, then there doesn't seem to be any real need for your lanyard to have a safety release.

Orangeanddemons · 21/11/2015 09:01

I have mine on a silky silver ribbon. It looks fab.

Orangeanddemons · 21/11/2015 09:02

And my friend wears hers on a long rope of pearls, which also looks fab!

strawberrypenguin · 21/11/2015 09:02

I used to have one where the snap clip was on one side rather than directly on the back of the neck so they do exist. I would talk to your manager and get them to source on of a different design for you. You really should have one with a snap clip for h&s reasons - both to stop you accidentally strangling yourself and depending on where you work to stop an aggressive customer being able to far you by it.

Cocolepew · 21/11/2015 09:04

Cath K ones are quick release, I wear one.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 21/11/2015 09:55

Well, my neck looks like somebody strangled me over night, the cold weather isn't helping at all, either.
I think anything round the neck is out for me!

I'll have a word with the lanyard keepers at work and will see what solution they have on offer. Until then I'll have to improvise - no belt or belt loops, and clip ons have ruined some good clothes before!

It might not be the material that caused the rash, but what it has been treated with. Is it possible to wash it and see if it makes any difference?

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 21/11/2015 13:48

It's not the material, it's the rubbing on my neck! My skin is so sensitive, it's not even funny any more. Sad

my cath kidson one (bought from the shop - a long time ago) doesnt have a quick release, maybe they changed the design

Can you attach it to a necklace or bracelet maybe? I don't think you need to worry too much about the emergency clasp unlocking. It's not like you're a cat getting caught on a branch in a tree

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/11/2015 15:04

Fell - I used to have that one. They have changed the design because it definitely has popper things now.

Bubbletree4 · 21/11/2015 15:05

I would modify the lanyard by sewing a piece of material over the few inches of the tape that touch your neck.

IguanaTail · 21/11/2015 15:06

Here we are. America does cotton hypo allergenic ones. And they export.

Castrovalva · 21/11/2015 15:12

Take pictures of the rash, and bounce the problem back to your employer.

If you are expected to wear a lanyard, they need to help you find a solution that won't make you ill.

IguanaTail · 21/11/2015 17:23

Yes agree with Castro

G1veMeStrength · 21/11/2015 17:27

Magnetic is the way to go. Try Nicholas Hunter - they do name badge holders that work really well. If they don't stock the right size I'm sure they'd have something you could customise. Or failing that try Recognition Express. I have used both for work.

G1veMeStrength · 21/11/2015 17:28

PS unless you have a pacemaker. Magnets and pacemakers do not mix.

Littlef00t · 21/11/2015 17:43

Could you sew a loop into the inside of your trousers?

Bunbaker · 21/11/2015 19:26

The extending badge clips can be hooked onto the waistband of your trousers. Can you not get one of those?

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/11/2015 19:31

I have a Cath Kidston one some students bought me as part of a present at the end of summer term - it definitely has the safety release clip thing.

specialsubject · 21/11/2015 19:48

wear a shirt with a collar?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/11/2015 19:51

eBay have silk lanyards for sale - maybe one of those would help?

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 22/11/2015 09:20

I'll have a word with the lanyard keepers tomorrow. Thanks for all your suggestions! Let's see what the powers that be can come up with.
