What does your 6-7 year old DD wear?

I'm thinking about party clothes for Christmas time and don't know if I dress/ let DD dress too young. She makes her own choices from the clothes she has, but I choose what to buy (usually, she gets some choice if she's with me).

She almost always wears: leggings, top, skirt and cardigan or leggings/ tights (currently 'itchy and annoying) and a jersey or knitted dress. Usually accompanied by very well pulled up socks...

Do girls of her age wear party dresses? She's not very streetwise and doesn't notice (or care) what others wear.

My daughter is 6 and she and all her friends love wearing party dresses. Usually any chance they get. My daughter likes things with details such as ribbon belts, net underskirts and sequins. Very glam. She likes to wear these with ballet shoes and tights, definitely not socks, and she has a couple of glitzy cardigans.

Sparkly hair accessories are also very popular.

Mine used to wear party dresses at that age - sadly it wasn't long after (8-9) that she pretty much gave up skirts and dresses altogether - Boden was totally uncool and she wanted to dress more "trendy". She's relented back into a few dresses now age 10 but it's pretty rare.

Mine still loves a party dress! Fairly short ones paired with leggings are good because it means she can run around like a lunatic at parties and still look smart.

My DD mostly wears leggings and a long sleeve top with a cardigan or something too.
She also seems to want bootleg jeans after asking for skinny jeans in September but as she has barely worn the skinny jeans and always reaches for leggings, I am not getting her them.

She does like to wear a party dress for a special occasion though she is wary of anything to sticky out these days so I think, depending on where the party is, a dress will be fine. Mine was also ogling the Christmas party dresses in H&M the other day which surprised me as I thought she had thoroughly moved on from them.

Great, thanks. I'm not getting it completely wrong then!

Animals/ pictures on tops? Do they still like those?

My DD (6) doesn't like full on party dresses with sequins/nets etc. She will wear a little bit of sparkly stuff but usually on a T shirt or tunic dress with leggings. Mostly she likes to be comfy/cosy! She would wear a onesie 24/7 if she could... Others in her class still wear princess dresses for parties but she and her best friend don't like them.

Mine has never liked princess dresses and can't stand to be itchy/ hot/ prickly/ tight etc. She had a great dress last year that was all jersey but with a flouncy skirt over the top. Perfect for comfort.

I have an 8 and a 5 year old. The 8 year old has really gone off dresses. She wore a beautiful full length dress for her first communion, but moaned that she couldn't run in it! She prefers skirts and tops to dresses, but leggings are favourite. Perhaps look for a fancy top, longer and perhaps a bit looser like a smock, with nice fine leggings. So it still looks like a party outfit?

As far as tights are concerned, I understand why woolly tights (and I include the thick cotton ones in this) can be described as itchy. My girls have both had white "ballet" tights from M&S and also opaque tights from Matalan which they really preferred.
