Hi all

Can anyone recommend a very good and reasonably priced lip balm for very dry and peeling lips?? I have vaseline in one of the little round tins (slides off), palmers cocoa butter lip butter, various nivea ones, and i havent found that any of them really help. Also, should i be scrubbing my lips or is that just making it worse? I do this morning and evening.

Carmex

LBOCS2 · 28/10/2015 19:34

Always Blistex. The one in the tube :)

HopefulAnxiety · 28/10/2015 19:52

Blistex and Carmex do nothing for me.

Vaseline gets closest so I think I need something occlusive - any ideas?

AkkerDemik · 28/10/2015 20:49

I'm surprised at all the recommendations for Carmex and Blistex as they contain camphor, which can be really irritating to lips - hence the tingling!

And certainly Carmex (I haven't used Blistex) contains salicylic acid which is a chemical exfoliant - so although it makes the lips feel nice initially, in the long term it makes them worse.

Mine's another vote for Lansinoh. Pure lanolin, very moisturising and it sinks right in.

Carmex.
The salicylic resurfaces your lips like an acid toner does your face. Smooths them and soothes.
A doc once recommended nipple cream but I have never tried it

Cerseirys · 28/10/2015 21:21

Salicylic acid is fine for your face but I wouldn't use it on my lips as the skin there is so thin.

Lansinoh nipple cream probably does the same thing as Lanolips but you get three times as much for half the price!

SushiAndTheBanshees · 28/10/2015 21:26

I'm surprised nobody has questioned this. Surely if your lips are this dry it means you're not well enough hydrated? Drink more water, it's all you need for super soft lips (and skin).

Lanisoh nipple cream! Put it on before bed, it's amazing stuff! My teenager thought I was mad when I suggested it but has since kept the tube!!!

SoftBlocks · 28/10/2015 21:37

Carmex is good although the thing that helped my horrendously chapped lips most was learning not to lick them which I was doing a lot without realising.

madmomma · 28/10/2015 22:55

Lansinoh sorted mine out when nothing else worked

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 28/10/2015 23:06

Yeah, the likes of Carmex, Blistex and also Vaseline do nothing for my lips except create a dependency on the product.

Burt's Bees is my holy grail lipbalm, I don't bother with anything else. I love the honey one and the new vanilla one, but I think they also make an ultra moisturizing variety now. I just put it on at bedtime, and I always have soft lips. I don't need to apply it during the day. Sometimes I do, but I don't feel I have to!

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 28/10/2015 23:06

Check your iron levels. I had this and my iron levels were through the floor, apparently it's a symptom.

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 28/10/2015 23:06

*Ignore the 'yeah', I thought I was quoting someone!

MintChocAddict · 28/10/2015 23:16

I find that Carmex and Blistex make my lips worse. It's Burt's Bees all the way for me, I've tried every type of balm, stick, tin imaginable and nothing comes close to BBs. Fabulous stuff!

gingerroots · 28/10/2015 23:17

Carmex v good

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 28/10/2015 23:20

Blistex in a tube for me. Mine don't get too bad generally, but when they do this is the best for a quick fix. Carmex does nothing though. I use Lansinoh on cracked skin on my fingers, it's brilliant for that and have just bought Lanolips for daytime use as it's nice and glossy (and on a BOGOF in Waitrose this week).

MrsWooster · 28/10/2015 23:28

Lansinoh. Marvellous!

HopefulAnxiety · 29/10/2015 00:47

Lanolin is a pretty common allergen. Has anyone tried Lansinoh AND Burts Bees, and are they as good as each other?

Flumplet · 29/10/2015 08:03

Well I tried the vaporub overnight and have woken up with lovely smooth lips. I scrubbed them gently before bed to get rid of all the rough bits with an old tooth brush and then slathered them with the vaporub and it's worked well. To maintain it today I've got blistex mediplus and Carmex. To the pp - I drink 3-4 litres of water per day, I think it's the air conditioning and change in temp that's causing the dryness. Thanks for all your tips!

Ha yeah see vapour rub is awesome. I love it. I seen the tip on Americas next top models a few years ago and have becomes hooked ever since

cashmerecardigans · 29/10/2015 18:35

Another vote for Burts Bees - best one I've ever had (and I've tried a few...)
