I want to try 'layering' with my clothes but not sure what to buy, any suggestions please?

I am quite short size 12 but am conscious of my tummy in some of my old clothes which are a little tight for me now.
I've heard on here about layering clothes & thought this might be a good thing to try to disguise the mum tum.
On the other hand I don't want anything too floaty or bulky as I am petite & don't want to be swamped.

What's the best way to do layering, how many layers do you wear & where do you buy things from?
I went to the shops today & just wandered around aimlessly as I didn't know what to buy.

Here's a little layering tutorial - I like this:

If you can "just about squeeze into your jeans" I think you'd be better going up a size.
I like jumpers at this time of year, I think they are more flattering and they dont need ironed. Matalan do cotton ones with a zip at the back, they hang loose and a very flattering. A long scarf can help hide a tummy too.
Also in Matalan Falmers long vests are great , loads of colours and lace at the bottom.

I too think perhaps you should go up a size in jeans if you're squeezing into them. I live in my jeans. I always layer. So like long line vest, square cut top over it, eg breton from Cos or that H&M one linked to recently, jacket, scarf. Or long line shirt, jumper slightly shorter over it, coat, scarf. I do like a scarf!

Abercrombie and Fitch are great for layering pieces too - I can't speak for their jeans/leggings but the majority of my tops are from their sales. Great quality, wash nice and thin but not cheap. Everything seems to layer well.

#I think it could look good if you have lovely long legs in skinnies with layers/ wrap on top. (That is not me though)

Rather than buying lots of clothes, just do a few weeks of something like 5:2.

Heattech (uniqlo) are good for colder weather. Not so long as h&m tops so might be better for you. Their leggings are great under jeans in the very cold.

I have a few gap long sleeved tops that are shorter and slightly heavier weight jersey cotton too. Just buy one or two and if you like

Posted too soon!

Just buy one or two things to try underneath and buy more if you like them.
