Shampoo for the very allergic?

CantSee4Looking · 18/10/2015 21:10

I have recently developed a pretty nasty reaction to my normal shampoo (yep they improved it and changed the recipe Hmm )
Can anyone suggest a shampoo that will be suitable for some who is even allergic to E45? Main culprit is normally lanolin, but the shampoo was something else.

Also any advice to help my poor scalp that is currently incredibly red and feels like it is burning?

Possibly one of the solid shampoo bars from Lush?

CantSee4Looking · 18/10/2015 21:13

Are they as scented as their bath bombs and other stuff?

Jasons Organic works here for very sensitive skin and multiple allergies (not to lanolin though).

We use Jojoba and I buy it from Natures Healthbox.

Worth checking the ingredients

You could try Phillip Kingsley

I switched from Aveda Shampure to Jasons, for shiny hair reasons rather than allergies.

DH uses Rosemary Mint but I find it too hard/drying on my scalp.

My DS has a very reactive scalp (E45 made his 100x worse)

At the moment he's using BodyShop Ginger (I don't like it, makes my hair feel wiry but DH and DS like it)

dr organics from h&b?

it sucks doesn't it? I itch just reading 'new improved'

flapmyfunnels · 18/10/2015 21:58

Look at the Moogoo range

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/10/2015 22:00

boots have started stocking the "YES" range. it's very good.

also In Holland and Barrett

animal product and chemical free. great stuff

CantSee4Looking · 18/10/2015 22:01

Thank you for all the ideas, i will pursue the ingredient lists and see if I can patch test a few my poor wrists and find something that will work.

Going to try coconut oil to help sooth the scalp tomo. So that will be an attractive look to rock, but anything to soothe the burn.

Lavender and rosehip oil if you can get it, to heal your scalp.

Might be worth trying Dr Bronner products though they do suggest using one of their conditioning rinses afterwards.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2015 22:30

Ooh I tried the "Yes" grapefruit bodywash - could not squeeze the bloody stuff out of the bottle unless I gripped with both hands Hmm

I had to decant it into an old pump bottle to use it. (Though it is nice)

steppemum · 18/10/2015 22:30

can I ask - I have a sensitive scalp, and eyelid eczema, I find that the shampoo that is fine for my scalp sets off my eye eczema, and the shampoo which is fine for my eyes, leaves my scalp itchy.
Also, some shampoos leave my hair looking rubbish. (body shop ginger was wonderful for skin, but hair looked flat lank and greasy!)

Anyone else have this problem?

Tarzanlovesgaby · 18/10/2015 22:37

steppe how about washing hair and skin separately? over the side of bath for example. that way schampoo only gets to hair/scalp.

steppemum · 18/10/2015 22:45

I have tried, but if I have used shampoo, it seems to always affect my eyes.

Heebiejeebie · 18/10/2015 22:48

I'm hopeless with most detergents and lanolin but Kiehls, Aveda and Moroccan Oil all fine

unlucky83 · 18/10/2015 23:00

I'm sensitive to Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) It makes my face burn even in shampoo.
More info - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylisothiazolinone
Apparently your sensitivity increases with exposure.
It is (or seems like at least) in everything. They are taking it out of things that stay on your skin like creams but it is still in shampoos etc.
I have a shampoo bar from Funky soap that is ok - takes a bit of getting used to (made my hair feel really funny -almost sticky but was ok dry and it gets better after a few uses - it comes with an A4 printed sheet telling you all about it - mine has improved but it still feels a bit odd wet). There are only a few ingredients in it so should be pretty safe.
Alternatively (in desperation) I have used Ecover washing up liquid - which is actually ok - does tend to be a bit drying. Not sure of the ingredients but DP drank it once (by accident - long story, not his brightest moment) and I read the label thinking it would be a trip to A&E but apparently not...he just had trouble getting rid of the taste - it was a bit foamy Grin)

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/10/2015 23:06

What about African Black Soap? Akamuti do a liquid version that can be used for hair washing.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/10/2015 23:08

It might be worth asking your GP for a referral for patch testing, I had it recently and it proved very informative, not just in telling me what my triggers are but how my skin reacts. The patches went on on Monday, off on Weds at which point I had no reactions, examined again on Friday by which time I had two really strong positives, so they took several days to cause a reaction. 5 weeks down the line and I can still see the red patches, I had no idea it took so long to clear after removal of the culprit. My problem is hands not scalp but would second the Dr Organic range they are free of pretty well everything "nasty". I currently use a Lush shampoo and conditioner though.

tectonicplates · 18/10/2015 23:09

I use Jason shampoo. Expensive but worth it. They make a scent-free one, but for some reason not many retailers sell it so you might have to look around a bit if you want the scent-free one.

strawberrypenguin · 18/10/2015 23:10

Baby shampoo?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/10/2015 23:11

I'd go into Lush and ask, they do have some scalp treatments and the staff are knowledgeable about ingredients snd iften able to give free samples.

JennaRainbow · 18/10/2015 23:11

The Green People range is really fantastic for very sensitive allergic skin.

Racundra · 18/10/2015 23:19

Waitrose baby shampoo is the only thing that doesn't give my DD scabs on her head! Sad

Nature baby too, but the scent is too strong for her (trust me, it's very mild, and nice, she has sensory issues).
