Makeup tips and tricks

Well ladies! I've got some great tips from other MNers on this forum and want more :) What makeup do you wear everyday? What's your hero product(s)? How do you use and apply your makeup?

Read in a s&B thread here recently a trick about adding illuminiser/highlighter to foundation to create dewy, glowing skin. I gave it a try (bobbi brown BB cream and Clarins Instant Light Complextion Perfecter) and have to say I love the result! It's natural but makes my skin look much less dull than it is IRL (thank you, breastfeeding hormones).

Also read some great reviews of Sally Hansen's new Miracle Gel nail polish. I'm shite at doing my nails but really love it. Two coats and its smooth and opaque. Mine is in Wine Stock which is a deep blood red. Hope that it's long wearing, we shall see.

Any other tips?

Oo love that colour looks like a Chanel one that I love but chips within hours on me.. Will have a look

Re tips, adding highlighter to foundation is one of my favourites things to do to add a bit of oomph to a made up face

Another good one for me is to powder before foundation for greater staying power, especially useful for oily skin types

Another simple quick but effective one for double chins or jowls (?) is to brush a bronzer under the jaw line. Takes seconds and really works to slim the face

Is that the baking technique? Saw a YouTube tutorial on it and gave it a try. Def gives flawless and smudgeproof finish but was a bit too heavy for me since I go for fairly light to medium coverage on the rest of my face.

It's not the baking technique I don't think, it's just giving your face a quick powder before doing your usual foundation/bb cream routine. I use medium coverage bb cream or foundation and it works great for my oily skin

I watched Wayne Goss' new video yesterday and he said the secret to flawless skin is a shit load of moisturiser, so much more than anyone would think but he put about a large conkers size on before foundation. Tried it today and my skin looks brighter and more natural.

madmomma · 20/10/2015 00:05

A conker size?! Bloody hell! Presumably you blot afterwards?

Blueberrymuffint0p · 20/10/2015 06:41

I saw that too why. He said to double or triple the amount you use and spend time really bugging it in. I tried it and my dry skin didn't feel tight by tea time like it usually does. I'm not sure if my foundation sat better-going to keep trying with it though.

WhyDoesGastonBark · 20/10/2015 08:29

I'm on my third day of putting on that much moisturiser and my skin feels lovely at the end of the day. Erm he just keeps working it into the skin so it all absorbs. :)

madmomma · 20/10/2015 10:08

Very interesting. I wonder if it works the same with moisturising sunscreen. I use the no7 p&p factor 50 as my moisturiser and I wonder whether it'd soak in cos of the sunscreen.

Blueberrymuffint0p · 20/10/2015 12:47

*buffing not bugging!

mowglik · 20/10/2015 13:10

madmomma I saw the video and he says he uses sunscreen not moisturiser so you'd be ok to use that too..

Minnie577 · 20/10/2015 13:19

Eyebrow mascara really makes a difference to my face & takes seconds. I have the benefit one. Curling my eyelashes if I can be bothered. L'oreal lumi highlighter in a line down my nose. Going to try the double chin bronzer one, thanks!

Minnie577 · 20/10/2015 13:20

Oh and a bit of the lumi on cupids bow works as well

Grok · 20/10/2015 14:28

I was wondering how you'd out that much moisturiser into your face, makes sense if you just have to keep rubbing it in. Will def try that tomorrow!

Minnie I've heard good things about that brow mascara, apparently which brand really makes a difference. I bought a cheaper high street one, forget by who though, and it made no difference at all (in very fair so really really need to add colour to brows and eyelashes before I leave the house!)

Using an illuminating primer instead. Holds foundation on and makes skin glowy. 2in1 instead of adding illuminator to foundation.

Grok · 20/10/2015 16:25

Box, do you mean something like Clarins Beauty Flash Balm?

OP posts:
itsbetterthanabox · 20/10/2015 16:43

Grok that would work but it's a moisturiser not a primer so doesn't increase makeup wear time or prime skin.
I'm thinking more like Estée Lauder illuminating perfecting primer or bare escentuals prime time.

Lndnmummy · 20/10/2015 19:43

My best makeup tip is tightlining, looks amazing

madmomma · 20/10/2015 22:19

Thanks mowglik Smile

LnDn what make of liner do you use for tightlining ? Even the waterproof ones run and make me look like a panda :)
