What style would you say my kitchen/dining room is?

Hiya!

We've just had our dining part of the kitchen done. Looks fab, and I'm over the moon with it.

My DP insists that it's a vintage, shabby chic look( the rest of our home is similar, except for me releasing my new profound Essex Godess in our glam bedroom). I'm disagreeing with DP.. I know you probably can't comment on all of the house because I haven't added pictures, but it is the same more or less.

I dislike the 'distressed' look of vintage/shabby chic (shabby shit is what my Mum calls it Grin), yet apparently this is also considered to fit that style? My MIL is the queen of vintage/shabby chic and her house has lots of distressed items and overall looks aged, where's I can't see the similarity between the two.

Am I right in saying our house has too much of a modern take/polished look to be considered shabby chic or vintage?

Sorry if this is a confusing post lol, and I'm not knocking off anyone's choices of style, shabby chic is lovely too Grin

Artisan?

hackedoffnow · 17/10/2015 21:27

Puritan? That second shot reminds me of a stage set of The Crucible.

Laquila · 17/10/2015 21:29

I don't know, but I do like your worktops.

Philoslothy · 17/10/2015 21:34

I like the work tops and the colour on the wall. Can you access the drawer unit at the top right hand side of the picture, the layout is a little odd.

WanderingTrolley1 · 17/10/2015 21:45

Not sure what I'd call it. It doesn't strike me as anything in particular.

Love the worktops, but the arrangement isn't right.

WipsGlitter · 17/10/2015 22:03

Your island looks really close to the sideboard. Can you get between them? Also the unit in the background, can you open the drawers? Is the floor half wood / half concrete? Are you sure it's your kitchen Hmm

Snoopadoop · 17/10/2015 22:04

Country. Traditional. Farmhouse.

You are going to take that plastic off the chairs aren't you? ;)

Lj8893 · 17/10/2015 22:13

It's lovely, and I would say it's modern country style. But I am confused about the layout too? I don't understand why you have a drawer that's blocked off? And your flooring doesn't look finished?

The rustic looking shelf could look shabby chic with typical shabby chic accessories though so avoid that if that's not the look your after.

Larastheme · 17/10/2015 22:46

Artisan.
I'm sorry but I can't really picture what you are saying, and I work in the interior designing industry! is the rest of your house like this style, farmhouse ? Or is it modern? Essex glam Confused, like towie you mean?

you say dinning area,of your kitchen, but the layout is a bit weird, why is there a nightstand on the left? Where will you eat? And do you need two sideboards? Is one a wine rack? Can't properly see, but it really looks too cramped in the middle then you have empty space on sides, it needs spacing out,

Devora · 17/10/2015 22:52

I'd say Modern Country. Not shabby chic or vintage.

CadiM · 17/10/2015 22:54

Shaker? Looks lovely, I have kitchen envy.

DrawingRoomBlue · 17/10/2015 22:58

I don't get the layout either.

helgaw99 · 17/10/2015 23:06

If I opened a kitchen catalogue and saw one called "Shaker" I would expect it to look like that.

whatdoIget · 17/10/2015 23:10

Do you live at MFI op?

AnemonesCloser · 17/10/2015 23:11

The MN detectives are circling their prey......

Frostycake · 17/10/2015 23:15

Its Modern Country. Beautiful.

ceeveebee · 17/10/2015 23:17

I would say shaker too

iPaid · 17/10/2015 23:25

What are the vertical stripes on the wall of the showroom kitchen?

WhataRacquet · 17/10/2015 23:57

Where's your sink, cooker, fridge, etc.?

Diamondsmiles · 18/10/2015 00:08

Interested to know what's on your floor. Looking to replace ours.

pookamoo · 18/10/2015 00:22

The floor is only half laid... this photo is definitely a showroom picture.

Fuzzballs · 18/10/2015 08:01

I'm sorry but this is definitely a show room picture, if you look closely at the first picture there is a big unit right in front of what looks like a small drawer unit, tha layout is certainly not a working kitchen

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/10/2015 08:10

The accessories certainly look a bit shabby chic, but the actual units I would say farmhouse.

Snoopadoop · 18/10/2015 08:21

In fairness the OP hasn't stated these are actual photos of my actual newly installed kitchen. They could be the showroom pictures, the pictures could be pre installation. I hope so else the OP has cupboards she can't even open.
But if it is a showroom and you just want an honest opinion from MNers before you buy, just say.

I would say it is 'traditional', 'modern farmhouse'. It is not shabby chic, although you could throw some bunting around which may help, and it definitely isn't TOWIE glam.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 18/10/2015 08:35

snoop - the OP has been very misleading if this is a showroom picture. Why, if it is a showroom, did he/she respond about the plastic on the chairs? Why not say it's a showroom picture and that's why plastic is still on them?
