Gloves/mittens for 2 yos that won't make me want to shoot myslef

I have 2 yo twins b/g. We do a lot of walking in London both on buggy board holding the metal handles of the buggy and on the foot path (Also have 9wo baby either in bassinet or sling). Also getting on and off buses.

So I need gloves or mittens that are
1 easy to put on
2 won't fall off
3 allow them to hold on to the buggy when on the buggy board and have a bit of dexterity eg to climb up jnto the bus
4 won't drive me insane.

Have cheapo mittens from h&m but their thumbs refuse to go jnto the thumb hole so they have no grip.

Put socks on their hands. The grips make them stay on easily and there are no thumbs to worry about it.

Oooohhh. Controversial! Not sure if get away with that. They are fucking annoying very particular and socks on hands would offend the 'not right' rule.

Sorry I have nothing to suggest as I still have issues with gloves and my nearly 4 yr old! I just wanted to say hats off to you for having 2yr old twins aswell as a new baby! Not to mention the walking and buses with them, I'm knackered just thinking about that lol...respect to you!

Ski mittens from tkmax which go over the coat sleeves by a couple of inches and unzip to let you get hands in and out. Come with big loops and a toggle so you can fasten them to their wrists but unzip the mitten when hands over heat (and the loops will keep the mitten on if you see what I mean). Plus handy pocket for ski pass or conker depending on your lifestyle and budget.

Decathlon usually do brilliant waterproof grippy mittens with elastic loops that go around the wrist (under the mitten). We've been buying them for years, but have finally had to progress to gloves (arggh!).

I also had some years ago without thumbs and with a clip to attach to the coat. They were brilliant but I don't know where they came from. Will have a google.

Polarn O Pyret mittens are very good. They've got elasticised cuffs and they're much longer than normal mittens so you can pull them over coat cuffs. Added bonus is they're waterproof and have rubber grip pad thingys on the palms and zips. Only negative is they're fairly expensive at about £22 a pair.

I got some nice mittens from next for dd last year. Padded with a bit of grip and elasticated wrists. About £6 I think

I always had gloves/mittens on a string.

Actually, because it is safer, I had them on elastic. So, measure out a piece of elastic that is the same length as the coat sleeve to sleeve. sew a glove on each end, this way of they are on or off it doesn't matter and they never get lost.

I find woolly gloves much easier to get on and off than thick ski type gloves. I also found that pre-schoolers do much better with mittens than gloves.

I feel a bit bad for my DS and his sock hands now - I'm going to investigate some of these Grin

Pop clip on ones (clip on to coat?

FreeButtonBee · 17/10/2015 13:13

Awesome ideas. Thanks people. Will try to have a look and see if I can get my hands on any of these.

I think thinner gloves will probably be best as they are tiny (taking back 18-20 mo clothes as they are enormous on DTD) so ski type gloves are unlikely to fit.

I was in mothercare earlier and they had the fingerless gloves which have a flip-over mitteny bit, which might work in terms of grip and warmth. I'd suggest those plus elastic to stop them getting lost.

We've got 2 yo DD in tiny 'magic gloves' which we got from H&M as I have been informed that she is a big girl and only babies wear mittens.
