I've seen Cetaphil mentioned a lot recently on mn, as a wonder cure for acne, skin problems, etc. Is it really that good?

I use it to wash my face with. I don't think it is a wonder cure at all, I use it because it doesn't contain perfumes and all that jazz. But I still have spots and so does DS who uses it too.

Maybe we're doing something wrong, I didn't know it was supposed to be a wonder cure.

Wolpertinger · 13/10/2015 20:53

It's not a wonder cure. However it won't over strip your skin, cause spots, upset rosacea or irritate any other problems you may have.

When I started using it my spots decreased but didn't go completely. When I added in salicylic acid the spots went for good. But the Cetaphil alone definitely made a difference.

iwantgin · 13/10/2015 21:22

I used to use it. Was recommended by dermatologist. It's just fragrance free, and non -irritating. (does contain SLS though).

It does leave skin feeling soft, not dry. I bought the bumper sizes from Costco

I use plain bar soap nowadays though.

Chippednailvarnish · 13/10/2015 21:24

Didn't work for me either...

Rivercam · 13/10/2015 21:45

I bought mine from Costco also, along with several,items...

Costco sell Cetaphil Shock??!! I'm going to Costco for the first time EVER on Thursday. DP may have to send a search party out for me.

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/10/2015 22:14

It hasn't magically cleared my spots but overall my skin looks better. I'm just getting to the end of my first bottle and will be buying it again.

How much is it in Costco?

Nettletheelf · 13/10/2015 23:04

I like it a lot but I've never seen it described as a wonder cure.

I thought its USP was that it doesn't contain foaming agents hence doesn't make your skin as alkaline as soap or face washes (alkaline environment apparently encourages bacteria growth & spots...who knows whether that's true)

HopefulAnxiety · 13/10/2015 23:44

Your skin is slightly acidic so although I'm not sure about the bacteria thing, too alkaline a cleanser isn't great for your skin.

Cetaphil is just a good gentle cleanser, but will make a difference to skin that's been dried out by harsher cleansers.

Chewbacca have you tried salicylic acid products?

Cerseirys · 13/10/2015 23:58

Cetaphil do a cleanser for oily skin too, which is also quite gentle but far better at removing makeup than the original version.

MadGrumblyGnome · 14/10/2015 01:15

I thought the oily skin cleanser had a horrible smell! But normal Cetaphil is good and gentle. I think it helps when you've been throwing the kitchen skin at your skin. Nice body moisturiser too.

MadisonMontgomery · 14/10/2015 08:33

I have really dry flaky skin & I use Cetaphil for my second cleanse - wouldn't say it's a miracle cure but it is very gentle & soothing for sensitive/dry skin. Plus it lasts for ages, j bought the giant 2 pack from Costco over 3 years ago & I'm still on the first bottle!

Glitteryred · 14/10/2015 18:52

I don't think cetaphil is that great for me, it seemed to leave a film on my skin and gave me tiny pimples.

I use it every so often so it's not wasted but I wouldn't use it every day,and won't be buying it again.

Chewbecca · 14/10/2015 20:35

hopeful have never heard of them, off to google now. Any specific recommendations? I'd be happy to try!

Mumtobeagain2015 · 15/10/2015 05:51

Ceraphil works much better by massaging in to dry skin and then rinsing off rather than straight on to wet skin. You may all well be doing this but it took me ages to realise! I find it softens my skin, is non drying and does ward off the spots.

iwantgin · 15/10/2015 11:48

Are some of you using the Moisturiser as a cleanser -rather than the actual cleanser ?

Leelu6 · 15/10/2015 14:27

I tried Cetaphil facewash and moisturiser for a while but my skin still felt dry.

I now use E45 face wash. It's so creamy that I am really not sure if it's an effective cleanser but skin feels clean.

HopefulAnxiety · 16/10/2015 12:25

Sorry, have been away training for work. Chewbacca try the Superdrug Clearly Youthful range.

Leelu actually the creamier the cleanser, the more effective it is. Oil dissolves oil.

Chewbecca · 16/10/2015 16:12

Damn, went to superdrug just this morning looking for a acid products and didn't notice the phrase on any labels!

Will go again soon and look at that range more closely, many thanks.

AmethystMoon · 16/10/2015 17:02

I have acne and use Cetaphil cleanser. It doesn't strip my skin so doesn't make it pump out loads of oil to compensate. Thus less oil to clog pores. Yes I agree also that used with something like Salycilic acid it helps keep my spots under control.
I remove eye make up with whatever remover I have to hand, then cleanse with Cetaphil on cotton pads. Then use acid toner (REN or similar) then use Clearasil pads after that. Then use La Roche Posay AI cream on any spots or ones I can feel forming. Then at night I finish with Duac cream (prescription). Touch wood this is keeping my horrendous acne under the best control ever.
It's only taken 40 years to get right Hmm
