Pregnant Dressing Gown Buying SOS

Can anyone help? I am 23 weeks pregnant (baby due in Feb) and I'd love to get a new dressing gown for Christmas because I think I'll probably be spending a lot of time in it over the next few months (night feeding etc). The problem I have is that the dreaded Baby Brain is making me completely rubbish at making any kind of decision about it and I can't seem to get inspired by anything I've seen. Can anyone help me find a lovely snuggly new dressing gown????

It needs to be:

  • Full length (but not stupidly long because I'm only 5 foot 3).
  • Not white or cream in colour (I will have a newborn soon - nuff said).
  • Snuggly (not stupidly hot, but we do live in quite a drafty old house and it will be mainly used in the winter).
  • Not sure about fabric, I hate velour but could be persuaded towards cotton or fleece depending on what people recommend.
  • Decent quality (budget between £35 and £75, but for the top end of that it would have to be the best thing ever).

Can anyone point me at anything nice??
Thanks.

I bought DH a Cowdray dressing gown from here - makes my White Co one look cheap. I will definitely buy the next one for me from them

Believe it or not I got the best soft warm dressing gown from asda.

Don't totally discount white/cream, newborn sick is milk coloured!! Although if you're more worried about the other end, mustard yellow may be a good bet.

I had a new one last year so not been looking at them recently. Mine came from White Company, previous one was John Lewis. Department stores plus M&S will all have quite a lot at this time of year I'm sure.

Ive just got a lovely fleece one from M&S. Quality is lovely, with a generous wrap over which you will need for your bump. Under £30.

lavendersun · 13/10/2015 12:25

mrs has it - poo coloured would be a plus Grin, mind you my mother managed to get everything out of anything by soaking in biotex.

wonkylegs · 13/10/2015 12:29

DH bought me a surprisingly lovely fleece one from M&S mines White but it comes in other colours.
I had a cream one when I had DS and it was fine.

I bought a dressing gone from sainsbury's for when I was pregnant. Warm and hard wearing and only about £20.

BananaRaces · 13/10/2015 13:11

Ooh, thank you so much for all your replies!

Interesting to hear that white/cream might not be such a no-go... Not sure I can force myself to buy one which is "poo-coloured" though Grin.

I did have a look in M&S but will have another rummage. That Cowdray one looks good too...

I have a gorgeous fluffy one from King of Cotton. It makes me feel like I'm in a hotel.

Seconded. My mum bought me a really heavy, quality dressing gown when I was pregnant with my first. It was too big for my hospital bag and way too hot to wear in hospital anyway. I've never worn it.

M+S fleece one, much lighter and comfier, I can roll the sleeves up out the way, it's not too hot but is warm. It also washes and dries overnight, and no need for tumble drying like cotton ones :)

daisydalrymple · 13/10/2015 13:34

Lovely ones in m&s at the moment in their signature range, BUT they have a hood, which I hate on dressing gowns. But you may love Grin also noticed some lovely ones in debenhams (cheaper than m&s)

PerspicaciaTick · 13/10/2015 13:38

I had a zip up one, a bit like this.

I found the ones with a tie waist tended to fall entirely open when breastfeeding. I could unzip the zippy one to the waist and still be cozy. the hood was nice during the long dark nights.

When I was pregnant I got a navy blue men's fleecey dressing gown from Asda in a size large. It was amazingly snuggly after having my baby (the dreaded chilly night feeds were much more pleasant!) and 2 years on I still use it. As it's a blokes one it was much longer on me than any women's ones which I liked a lot. I recommend a dark colour so it doesn't get ruined by baby poop or sick which can stain lighter colours even when you've washed them really well.

I'm due in 3 weeks and I'll be using it again! Got to give it a wash. It cost about £15 from the menswear section.

BananaRaces · 13/10/2015 13:57

Ooooh Perspicacia, I really like the look of that zip-up one. I didn't even know zip-up ones existed! Blush

Ihate and mayhew that's the problem with my old one (apart from the fact that it's knackered) it's just not big enough, it doesn't have enough material in front to go around me properly now that I have a bump.

I would have a think about a full length dressing gown, you'll be carrying a baby up and down stairs. If you are anything like me (two left feet) then floor length is just asking to be tripped up as you climb stairs.

I recommend the marks and spencer quality. I have a John Lewis dressing gown that is nowhere near the same quality.

BananaRaces · 13/10/2015 15:22

Good thinking Lovely. Smile See, this is why I come to MN with this kind of thing. I do indeed have 2 left feet... Maybe I'll try for one which is kind of shin-length or something. I'd rather have cold legs than a fall. Shock

Persp beat met to linking to the perfect dressing gown The M and S zipped one is so good I have just bought a second one (I love my dressing gowns!)
I am only 5' 3" and the long size is perfect to the ankle.
It is warm and lightweight but not too warm, washes and dries really easily and most importantly does not gape when you sit down like wrap around ones tend to.
Buy it you won't regret it.

Glitteryred · 13/10/2015 18:54

I bought myself a soft pink fluffy dressing gown from M&S which is still going strong after a few years when I was pregnant. I think it must be made of magical properties.

Just don't wash them with conditioner as it then loses it's fluff apparently.

Glitteryred · 13/10/2015 18:58

I quite like this one
