Is there such a thing as a hairdresser's that plays classical music?

I find going to the hairdresser very stressful - not so much because I worry about the colour or cut, but because I find the music generally played in these places so exhausting!

Why is it that beauty salons and spa-type places (not that I frequent them much!) play relaxing music, but hairdressers favour the type of soundtrack that would be more suited for psyching somone up to do several rounds in a world heavyweight boxing championship? Confused

I have tried making sure I am either the first or last appontment of the day, thinking that, as the only paying client in the salon, I can reasonably ask for the music to be switched off or at least down to half the usual volume, but last time I made that request, they looked shocked and actually asked the junior trainee at the back of the room if it was OK!! Needless to say, the volume of the relentless repetitive dance music crept up again to headache-inducing levels and I left the place once again feeling tired and grumpy.

So, the question is - does anyone know of a good hairdresser in London that plays relaxing music, preferably classical, which won't give me a headache and tensed shoulders, but not a blue rinse either!

Oh, and one which offers wine too would be a big bonus WinkWine

I agree with you.
And,Christ, why should you have to 'put up with it its only a few hours' when you are paying a bloody fortune! If it's to pep the hairdressers up then, as they are AT WORK, it is them who should 'put up with' quieter music.

Hurray! More people who feel the same way!

I agree that local radio really is some of the worst, but I can't bear the inane chat and irritating ads on all commercial stations, including Classic FM.

My local dentist practice plays annoying local radio in the waiting room, but once in the chair, the dentist asks for your taste in music. One astonished me by managing to accommodate mine on my first visit! Sadly he's recently left to sail round he world. However, his partner plays Classic FM, which I suppose is OK, but they do play very populist clips: I really had to try hard not to laugh when the Superman theme came on at a critical point in my dental implant operation Grin

I'll continue the search for a classical music playing hairdresser, though...

Mine is on South Molton Street (Bond street tube) in London and often they play classical music. Some times there if no music, but if there is, it is classical

You can Google them, if you want. They are called Graffiti Studio. The team are mostly Japanese and making an appointment on the phone can be challenging, but they are great

Thanks, DragonRojo - I'll look them up. South Molton Street is pretty handy for one of the offices I work in Smile

These guys m.yelp.co.uk/biz/studio-stage-door-london so good!

Mine plays excellent music actually, not classical exactly, but Belle and Sebastian and the like. The hairdressers are Japanese, softly spoken, give an amazing head massage and let you read while they snip away. Bliss. It's near London Bridge if that's any good?
